Only God Forgives was more of the same, only worse. As far as atmosphere, setting, music, etc... he's one of the very best... but his plot lines, dialogues, stories, concepts, since Drive have been very poor, and quite banal. They are, however, worth watching, just for the compelling and hypnotic atmosphere.

Birth is a shit film that has somehow seen revisionist reviews recently trying to make it into some sort of cult classic. Glazer made a serious mis-step there imo, after Sexy Beast. Kingsley was so brilliant in that one. Under the Skin, though not my favourite (dislike Scarlett Johansson), was a much better return to form for Glazer, of what he did so well with his debut. Much less substance than a Kubrick work though.

Have no idea why Grand Budapest Hotel is on that list. Not at all Kubrickian. Same with Interstellar.

Haven't yet watched Beyond the Black Rainbow either.

It's a good list though. Some great films and some good films. Although I see Melancholia as more of a Tarkovsky inspired film, and don't really see Lynch's Eraserhead as his most Kubrickian... Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet would be closer to Kubrick imo.

I'd add... Anything by Gaspar Noe... especially Enter the Void. White Ribbon by Haneke. Vanishing Waves by Kristina Buozyte. Herzog's Aguirre... Embrace of the Serpent by Guerra is super Kubrickian too imo.

Only God Forgives
is on the top of my list. I'll probably watch it tomorrow after The Neon Demon. And then those 2 from the list.

Grand Budapest Hotel I thought had no place in the list either, no fucking idea why it made it. Maybe the vivid colors, the hotel (The Shining)? But just no. Interstellar should be mentioned in the same sentence as Kubrick. Aside from the space theme there's nothing that resembles anything Kubrick.

Agree on Melancholia having more of a Tarkovsky taste and pace than anything Kubrick. TBH I don't see any of Lynch's work as anything Kubrick either, maybe the camera work on Eraserwork, the still frames?

I'll be adding your recommendations to my list. Thanks. (I loved Enter The Void by the way, quite unique.)

I'm talking Beasts of the Southern Wild. I remembered us talking about you haven't watched it :D
Oh man, that was so long ago  And no, I forgot, sorry.

Is it family friendly? Can I watch it with my girl and maybe the kids and not put them off?

Doctor strange, much better than suicide squad, though a lot of similar things going on with these magic/socrcery/witch/wizardry shit that happened. Doctor strange just seemed much more natural and Benedict is awesome, i am biased, though you do feel theres a lot of his sherlock character in the movie, which i didnt mind at all.

overall great 8/10

@CrimsonianKing

Watch The Wailing. First 2 hours are bloody brilliant. The end is a bit of a let-down (just a bit) as is often the case with horror/thriller films, but all the same, it's one of the best of the last few years.

Same director who did The Yellow Sea and The Chaser, Na Hong-Jin.

Awesome! :D

Definitely the best. There's something so... "epic" in scale (or perhaps grandiose) about so many of them, that's entirely missing from American horror.
They're the only ones to still chart new waters regarding the horror genre. And I don't know, but you look at small Asian towns and theyre creepy as fuck already. Something about the way they look.

Suicide Squad

Worst movie I have ever watched

I expected it to be bad.

But then again, that's how I roll when I watch any super hero movie. But at least some offer fun.

But Sucide Squad... man... I can't describe how horrible that movie is. It almost made me cry. It's just... dogshit. It's literally 2/10 just because I liked Deadshot and Harley Quinn. But Joker and others :lol2: I just... no.
