I would rather go to the future to see what becomes of this world.

History is great but studied from distance.

Though I would like to see if the Battle of Troy was actually real or not since studies aren't clear about this.

This thread is a success

I think we all have our favoritism over a certain people or time. Which makes this question more interesting;

If you could back in time to a specific time and place in history, which would it be and why?
I would go to Trondheim, Norway in the year 2000 as a T-800 Model 101 to kill @Martin so he would never create the Tuz.

Th very beginning of life on earth. Starting with just bacteria and then colorful algae. I'd like to see how the environment was different back then, what color the sky was, what earth felt like, etc. And then I'd like to see the dinosaurs. The biggest and most powerful creatures to have ever graced earth. I look at a 6 foot something basketball player jumping a few feet in the air and my mind is blown. Imagine the physical feats those motherfuckers could pull off. Flying dinosaurs as big as a private plane. Crazy shit.

Speaking of RUS, he reminds me of Mac in that episode of Always Sunny with evolution. He might try to build a case by presenting figures and statements but he's still wrong and we all know it. Plus, he lost all credibility when he said he doesn't believe in the moon landings.

That was classic. I also thought of the Workaholics episode where the Black Keys were in the courtroom and Anders kept saying, "You better lawyer up!!!"

So what you're saying is basically to not dwell on the past, because it's the past? That people should accept Dinosaurs? and that Rus' brain is on the moon?

Well, here in the US we are fracking most of your Canadian ancestors to power our smoothie makers at home.

This isn't about the relevance of the moon landing, but just about the fact that it existed.

What was/is more important to science/humanity is a different question all together, as is that of the winner of the "race to space", but they did land.

Speaking of Catholic Church its early history is also fascinating. The evolution from small sect to the only religion in Rome, how much it changed and how much was adopted/invented on the fly.

I also love the Byzantine Empire, their social structure and constant struggle against northern and southern invaders. Of course the killer shot was fired by good old catholic crusaders during the 4th crusade.

Generally speaking I like the earlier history more than modern one, probably because much more is clouded by mystery.

Btw check out the history of Roman Emperors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_roman_emperors

Half of them were assassinated by their own guards . I would never accept that job :p.
Was it Nero whose Praetorian Guards, after they assassinated him, took his child (or children) by the ankles and bashed their heads against the wall until dead? Brutal shit.

The Fourth Crusade was fascinating. The entire crusade was basically trolled by the Dojo of Venice, and old blind man, who forced the crusaders to sack a Catholic city for them because they couldn't pay their bill for all the ships they constructed and the sailors they provided. I think the city was called Zara, on the eastern shore of the Adriatic. The decision to attack Constantinople was a bit more complicated. The Crusaders allowed themselves to be drawn into a dynastic struggle and then just ended up taking the city for themselves and setting up a Latin dynasty. A sign of things to come from the Western Europeans, eh? lol
