I was too eager. I apologize profusely.

But you silly people should recognize that it's more so the films I watch that are strange and often bizarre, and not so much the titles. Sometimes the strangest films have the most ordinary titles, and sometimes the reverse is also true. I adore bizarre cinema.

Tadanobu Asano who replaced Ken Watanabe (thankfully) is biggiest name there. Otherwise not so much well known with the rest when I check their work.

This long lived project tends to have a roller coaster of cast changing. DDL was attached for longest time no? Also read that Benicio del Toro and Gael Garcia Bernal was, instead of the boring Garfield and Adam Driver.

Yeah, I know Asano, Ryo Kase and Issei Ogata. The rest, not so much. You don't like Watanabe?

Yup, Daniel Day-Lewis, del Toro and Garcia Bernal were part of the original cast. del Toro and Bernal are definitely too old for their parts now, but it's a shame DDL dropped out. Really, really a shame. Neeson is a nice replacement though. I'm not a big Garfield fan, but he was good in The Social Network, and I heard good things about 99 Homes too. At least he's the perfect type for the role. Vulnerable, a bit naive and not too mature.

I dont mind Watanabe as much as I find it cliche that his entire hollywood career is just getting the same roles in movies like this (unlike Hiroyuki Sanada who does quite different type of jobs). It gets boring, and I prefer to see another Japanese actor in this role, even if its the guy who played Ichi The Killer :D

I dont think Bernal should be too old for it, but Del Toro would be for sure. I havent seen 99 Homes, and I liked some of his early english work, but he is bit too whiney teen vurneable type of onesided actor, rarely see any depth or range from him. Maybe this role is whats required, but doesnt exactly strike me as interesting when I see him cast in a project I'm intrigued by.

I know some of the Japanese actors in the cast, but can't claim to be well versed in contemporary Japanese cinema. Paging @JuveJay. What's your opinion of the cast, and have you read the novel too? :)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490215/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast
Pretty random for me, fairly weak as a list but it might be work because they are interesting choices. Never read the novel, no.

Asano is a good actor in thriller roles, Tsukamoto more of an oddball/cult director, his acting roles are sparse. Both were in Ichi The Killer, which you may have seen. Issey Ogata is a funny guy in a typically over the top way of Jap comedians. Most of these have foreign movie exposure so they speak at least some English, hence the choices.

Nana Komatsu looks like she might be a big deal in Jap circles, mostly looks pretty on camera, a fast up and comer but probably has a tiny role in this.

Agreed, Garfield being cast in a project definitely doesn't get me more excited. :D I'm still hopeful he can pull it off.
You referring to Red Riding? Because that was for sure an interesting project.

Thanks.

Komatsu surely got a small role. I can't even remember the role from the novel. How about Yôsuke Kubozuka? He probably got the most interesting and demanding role.

That, and his best work for me being Boy A still.

You read the book, worth recommending? Is it a good overall dramatic novel, or overly religious one?

I remember he was a big deal when he was young, bit of a hit with the ladies, but didn't notice him around much in recent years.

Just read that he is trying to be a reggae singer now, called 卍Line (Manji Line)
