I have to say, going through all of this isn't something you'd wish your worst enemy.

I give the advice to everyone who smokes, stop with it, what we have to go through surely isn't worth what a cigarette offers you, trust me.

He just called me, in the blood they checked today, the decrease in white blood corpuscles stopped.
If in the next 24hours, they start increasing, he may go home on Sunday and on Monday, the radiation can start again.
So after a long day of worrying, this is some good news.

I think not even a single smoker will listen to your advice though. Hell, my grandfather died of cancer more than 10 years ago & even to this day both my parents still smoke. Go figure.

Nicotine is very addictive. It is harder to kick nicotine addiction than some other drugs.

Every time I see this thread I feel like quitting the smokes. Definitely the goal for 2012.

I managed to. If I can: you can too! The hardest part is friends and family offering you a cigarette by shoving their packet of fags under your nose. Most of my family have managed to stop. In Scotland, smoking in public houses and public transport is banned and most people have adopted a no smoking policy in their house. Even smokers don't smoke in their own homes 'cos they have realized that it's bad for their kids health (Due to passive smoking).

October 12 2007 my last smoke. Believe me I know exactly what you mean. I haven't had a beer in 3 weeks as well.

And again they decreased, now he will be allowed to leave on Monday.
It really seems to be a rollercoaster.

So, the last 3 days of radiation (2x/day) and the last 3 days of chemo (appearently, the heaviest of the 3 cures) and then the treatments are finished.
Since this is the heaviest of the 3 chemo's, we of course are worried how he'll react since the adventures of 2 weeks ago, but it has to be done.

And then 2 stressfull weeks of waiting on the result.

The positive thing is that he still is capable of eating normally, the radiation still didn't kill his gullet which is a small miracle according to the people giving him the radiation.

My mother-in-law is speaking to an oncologist right now about her options for her kidney cancer. Stuff is going around...
