So you're a fan of christianity, but not the bible?
Nah, I'm a not a fan of technocratic society. And I think bible a good book on morals, specially the new testament. I think there are a lot of good things in it. Wether you believe if there is a christian god behind it or not, is not of my concern regarding it. My only concern would be with the organised religion vatican, but with people believing in god certainly no.

Yet it has some terrible moral teachings as well. Meanwhile the good teachings aren't in any way exclusive or even original in the bible. So why make a point of it?

It doesn't matter if they are original to the bible or not, it doesn't change what the information holds, its still good whatvere the source is. And I mainly talking about the new testament here, and jesus teachings or stories of them.

Why make it a point, since it's a big collection of them in one place. It's like a biggest hit cd of your favorite genre :D

I hope that addresses your claim that out thoughts exist in a spiritual world or something like that.

Your question is malformed. By asking "who", you are automatically eliminating any natural process as an answer.
I'm just using the analogy from the video, the hardware of computers haven't assembled itself you know :p

to avoid derailing the Seria A thread i chose to finally post my opinion on this entire topic and finally step in to this thread to try and clarify why Rus is no different than the extremists on the other team or the religious people or as he loves putting it people with no brains who decide to believe in fairy tales or myths or what not.

i think its alright for people to have religions and also alright for others to choose not too, its a personal choice for each and every one. its not my job to force religion down sheik's. martin, salvo etc throats!! the same way they dont force there way of thinking on me, sure we debate and thats a healthy and good thing but its with a lot of respect. martin knows my faith but that does'nt mean me and him are not friends and actually we talk from time to time and we exchange opinions about various topics. the same applies to salvo, sheik, hoori, etc. to go and make fun of what others believe in is not right regardless of yr stand on the topic.

Rus you choose to mourn people the way that suits you but you have nothing to say against how others choose to mourn others. let me tell you a short story, you know what i hate the most about certain fundamentalist muslims?? i hate the people who take the extreme route to this religion and as many other muslims here will tell u they exist and they have poisoned idea's that are screaming bigotry and discrimination!! ask fred, yamen, rebel, tahir, hoori, about this they will paint you a colourful picture. people who abuse religion dont necessarily mean the religion is horrible, nor does it mean other people who r moderate are bad, stupid, retarded, call them what ever you want!! if we used that logic and i toke the extremist side like these people preach let me tell u i would've missed out on many friends i have been blessed to have on this forum and in real life bec they believe in a different faith or none.

instead of calling people morons, and instead of judging people by religion u should at least try to learn to respect that not every one has the brain power you have that has shown u the truth. in the same time, people who chose to believe in faith should not force it on you, and should respect that u choose to believe there is no god. but to go on an insult spree and make fun of religions is not acceptable and if anything makes u a lose a lot of respect.

and one last thing, insha Allah is not a bad word nor is it wishing evil on someone, i wish you would do some research before assaulting any one who uses it.

the bottom line is, its more than alright to debate this topic but with out it becoming a competition to insult one another, or mocking the faiths of others.
one last thing a couple of pages back jasper quoted a list of names of members that voted on the poll for god existing and posted that he lost a lot of respect for them. i dare to ask why?? i mean what does that have to do with anything?? you should'nt judge people with what they believe in or there faith instead judge them by how they treat you. if you dont you seriously are missing out on a lot, mainly meeting and learning a thing or two about people, cultures, and the diversity of backgrounds.

If the moral teachings could be thought up without ever having read the bible, then why even attribute the bible with a useful contribution, or any other book for that matter? Intuitive Secular Ethics...

If these moral teachings are tough with bible what's the problem in that? It's not like you are forced to believe or anything, there are much much worse things in world to be concerned about then bible and it's morals.

----------

Twenty four hours after trouble broke out at a beef festival organised on the Osmania University in Hyderabad, the campus is still looking under siege. Policemen are guarding entry and exit routes to ensure no outsiders enter and instigate trouble.

The festival had been organised by several student groups who claimed to be opposing "food fascism" in hostels, the police said on Monday. The beef festival saw clashes, where five students were injured, and vehicles were burnt.

The situation in the university was tense as violence continued in the campus past midnight. Protestors set a media vehicle and a bus on fire.

The clashes broke out on Sunday night after some Dalit and left-wing student groups organised a beef festival on the campus, to highlight their demand for including beef in the hostel menu. Over 200 students and some professors attended the festival and ate various dishes made of beef.

The University vice-chancellor has however clarified that no change is planned as of now in the University canteen menu.
