the problem is not one of quality but lack of depth, having to play Grosso at LM is proof if any were needed of that. starting 11 we have a very good team but scratch beneath the surface and you find a lack of depth and quality. we have needed to invest in quality fullbacks for a few years now,it is finally coming back to bite us on the arse
Well yeah, the bench was horrible. Maybe it looks ok if we are leading a game, chasing it is pathetic.

Next: Buffon. He's missed a year of the past two years due to injury. I think he's reached his peak and will only go downhill from now. We expect too much from him and it's likely he wont be able to play constantly due to injuries.

IMO, Storari is more than a decent goalkeeper, he might not be Buffon's class, but he is IMO good enough to win Serie A with (if we had other posititons covered of course). If you look at other teams above us, almost of them (except inter) have keepers that are not better than Storari.

On Buffon's wages alone we could save 20 mil e in the next two seasons. A good player can be bought for that money.
It's a dangerous game though, everyone says how we are lacking quality and then we are speaking about selling quality players. The €20m could be spent on two average players, next thing you look and our entire squad is made of average players.

Buffon hasn't played in yonks,

Chiellini has been horrible for the last 3 games

Krasic has been non-existant

Melo has a big role to play for the last 2 games results
Yeah and I could pick apart 90% of those players you listed too, Balzaretti and Mauri FFS, you get my point.

true, the depth we have is poor but i also want to add to this the fact we invest money the wrong way to be honest!! ever since we got back from seria B this has been the case. we get either average/non proven players or washed up players ( i mean in particular players from the italy national team of 2006) these two reasons are in my opinion why we r living this shit nightmare. dn does'nt take the blame i think its un-fair to stick it to him, marotta and the owners do take a good lot of my criticism.

the problem cant be the coach bec we've had 4!! yet its the same crap displays against teams juve pre 2006 would've trashed or drawn too or in the worst case lose by one goal margin but not these trashings we r getting.

no pace no this no that no way explains how this team could take in goals like that, this team has no personality with the majority of players not minding to lose
Exactly, and it's extremely evident when we lose because we barely fight back and completely shut down. Hence the 7 goals in 2 games.

With players coming off the tunnel at the HT with smile on their faces like Storari and Bonucci your post makes total sense.

Unfortunately, we lack both.

But I think lack of quality is a massive problem. Like you said, we have no legitimate quality FB's and haven't in years. We have a guy who should be a back up RM starting at LM, and he's only starting at LM because the guy who usually plays there is playing at CM (where he belongs, although to be frank, Marchisio really belongs on the bench atm).

There are 3 positions on the pitch where there isn't anything that even approximates a 1st choice calibre player (You could argue the target man spot, as well).

that episode really got to me, i am not naive i know players dont care as much as we do about rivalries and such, but at the very least care about the result be a fricking competitor how can we accept and let in players who dont abhor the thought of losing.

Agreed, we need to be more nasty, Napoli were serious and wanted to get beneath our skin. We were all handshakes and smiles, Chiellini is a great example. As much as I admire fair play, this is just ridiculous. We were playing Napoli ffs.

I see it as the coaching staff and Del Neri's fault that we have players that dont really give a fuck if we win or lose!.. We need a strong personality starting from the coach.

And we need MONEY!!!!!!

Fuck fair play! Sure after the game we can all be friends but during it fuck it, play like your life depended on it.

Marotta and Del Neri brought a small team mentality with them. They need to think bigger and realize that they're running the biggest and most prestigious club in Italy and the world.

This seems to happen whenever there is a chance of getting ahead in the table. We could have gone second, but the players minds crumbled at this thought.

We simply lack quality, confidence and the will to win. Seriously, at times I felt like sprinting or tackling instead of them while watching some of our players with that attitude tonight. And this is not just the Coach's fault.
