I agree, why would you not want him Rab? as for a quality side that is unquestionable and nobody can deny he has that. So what is it that makes people dislike him?
Many reasons. I'll give you three

1- If he comes, then we might wave a goodbye for Giovinco, a player that is worth a lot more than Cassano TBH. They both play almost same position and I wont think twice about picking one of them.

2- Football technical point of view, he's one lazy player, I don't care how talented he can be, I don't like lazy players, I'm into hardwork players and Cassano isn't a hardwork player.

3- His attitude that I don't trust.

Just to get us on the same page.

I am talking about last season, to be precise the 2008-2009 season. Cassano was superior to DP in the Serie A in that season. Actually the only attacker who was probably better than him was Zlatan.

Also i distinctly remember DP being virtually invisble in both Inter games. I remember the Milan game at the San Siro at the end of last season, i don't think DP played in that one. You can refresh my memory about the first leg in Turin, and about the Roma games, i cannot remember those to be honest. He was however majestic against Real in both legs.

Again, so that we are on the same page. I am not comparing both players abilities nor am i comparing their achievments. But i think the Cassano of 2008 and 2009 is superior to the DP of the same time period.

Del Piero was far from being invisible vs Inter, specially when we played away to them, against Milan he scored and put in one wonderful performance, against Roma he scored that 30m Freekick to seal us the win not to mention vs Napoli and some powerful mid table teams.

Yet no one has answered my question, can someone give me a statistics for Cassano's assists or goals vs Juventus, Inter, Milan, Roma, Lazio last season?

I'm aware of that.

Still, Del Piero is the guy who was our best player, topscorer, top assistman even in 2008/09.
I know it's smart to think about the future and in the future, near or more distant, Cassano will surely be better than Del Piero, but Alessandro Del Piero is not someone you can get rid of easily while he's still producing the goods, just so you can replace him with someone who'll be better in the future and who might be better now.
I say "might be better now" because performance wise Cassano might be a litle better right now but Del Piero plays for Juve all his life while with Cassano you don't know what to expect in Juve.
I used to think like this all the time, and I still admire Cassano and all but, it's too late. Cassano is not young anymore, remember when we replaced Baggio? we replaced him with a 19 year old talented kid. I might be wrong thou, was he older? What I am saying if we want to plan for the "future", we need someone as young as Jovetic, or maximum 23-24 years old player. Our attackers are already old farts, I don't want us to become like Milan.

I was against the Amauri deal for this reason when we signed him, not that I doubt his talent, but for the same reason I don't want Cassano anymore..

Roma 2-0 Sampdoria

I don't have the assists figures, but I guess that will be much more as Pazzini has scored quite a few against the above sides...

Just because people want him as the alex replacement doesn't mean he is better than Alex. Just because people say he had a better season than Alex last time around, also doesn't mean that they think he is better than Alex. What are our chances of getting somebody better to replace Alex? Close to nil - yes?
Giovinco is no DP, Cassano is no DP. But we can replace DP with the best available resource... Giovinco for all his brilliance cannot cut it as a SS like DP does. Cassano is the best available option. I can understand people having trouble with his attitude and his temper. But his footballing brilliance is undeniable...
Another option will be to stick with the formation we are playing now and nullify the need for a SS, play with one striker and there is no need for Cassano either.

that's a well spot on problem..we did changed the system once with diego's arrival...we changed it again because 4-3-1-2 doesn't work for us...we really need cassano to change the system once more? i know that the season is long and anything can happen(we might change it again if some accidents will occur)...but giving 20 mils for freakish cassano it's just too much.

Right on.
Cassano had his chances at the big team in the past. He didn't take them back then, and now I feel it's too late for him to become a vital player at a top club.

You and me both.

People seem to forget real fast. As if he hasn't screwed up while playing for Sampdoria.

exactly, we dont need to play 2 strikers, given the strikers we have its smarter to buy 2 strikers. the lack of ss going around plays a part in this as well

i think the
4-3-2-1 or the 4-2-3-1 is the future

and about cassano being better than alex, i was just replying to what alen said, where he did say that

I went back two seasons to the 07/08 home fixture against Inter (matchday 24) so got the one in which Cassano scored.

I put in the assists in your post.

He has done none of that at Sampdoria.
exactly, from what I've read and heard the Samp fans adore him

good find man....the people who defend the brand new changed cassano should see this.
that was an incident early on in his Sampdoria career, he has been relatively disciplined since then...and like I've said before, talent is above everything...we need a flair player who can change the game

Sampdoria-Juventus 0:0
Juventus-Sampdoria 1:1 (Cassano assist)

Sampdoria-Inter 1:1 (no goal or assist, but he was the Man of the Match by far, because he literally destroyed Inter's defense on that match.)
Inter-Sampdoria 1:0
Sampdoria-Inter 3:0 in Coppa Italia (Cassano scored one, a great lob, and created the third one, even though it won't be counted as an assist because an Inter player touched the ball last, before Pazzini scored. He was the man of the match again)
Inter-Sampdoria 1:0 in Coppa

Milan-Sampdoria 3:0
Sampdoria-Milan 2:1 (Cassano scored and assist)

Lazio-Sampdoria 2:0
Sampdoria-Lazio 3:1 (Cassano scored...fantastic goal)
Lazio-Sampdoria 1:1 coppa final

Sampdoria-Roma 2:2 (Cassano assist)
Roma-Sampdoria 2:0

3 goals and 3 assists, but what's just as important is his involvement in almost all the goals. He starts the action with a killer pass and many times the action results with a goal, even though technically he's not getting an assist for that. Like Diego against Sampdoria on Wednesday. Diego didn't score and didn't get an assist, but he was instrumental in many of the 5 goals we scored.
I checked all the goals on these matches i mentioned above, and even when he's not getting an assist or a goal, he created the goal in most of the cases.

Anyway, I don't understand why do you think he's not showing against the big teams. He scored and assisted a lot against the big teams even when he was at Roma.

Oh, and Cassano scored 3 and assisted 3 more against Juve, Roma, Milan, Inter and Lazio.

Small comparison with our players against Sampdoria, Roma, Milan, Inter and Lazio:
Del Piero 3 goals (Roma, Milan penalty and Lazio coppa) and 3 assists (Roma, Milan, Roma)
Amauri 3 goals (Milan twice and Sampdoria) 0 assists
