I’m all about free enterprise which the ESL is an example of. However, the same capitalistic tenets of existing entities like UEFA, domestic leagues will be inherited by ESL for better and for worse. The primary distinction is the control clubs will have.

It's all about setting precedence. If something better comes up, it will push over the ESL, so on and on.

The English media and fans make me sick with how they speak about the Super League.
They feel the threat to their dominance.

More than 50 clubs?

When are they going to contact my local pub team?
Champions League have 78 teams yet less than a third deserve to be in that competition. EL have 58 more clubs (+ the CL losers join in at various stages). 60-80 clubs would reduce that madness by half and I expect a lot of the 55 member countries of the UEFA to be given the finger here, raising the number of teams from higher quality leagues. I'd rather watch Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Torino, Udinese, Werder and Leverkusen in Europe than 80% of the crap that's given the chance based on the UEFA system.

I really really hope this comes off and becomes a proper force to pull a massive chunk of the EPL market share. Let those island monkeys enjoy playing among themselves and the rest of Europe can enjoy football without them

Edit: It probably won't pull any EPL market share but rather UEFA market share. But the point remains

I actually think this new format might just convince more clubs and could become a reality.

Anything to stop the hegemony of the disgusting organisation known as UEFA is fine with me. Let those motherfuckers rot in irrelevance where they belong.
I agree.

We'd be fooling ourselves if we didn't realize a lot of historic clubs saw the EPL spending this winter window and raised an eyebrow. Over a billion spent by one league, completely muscling the competition. I think those clubs from around Europe and their fanbases kind of had an eye opening reaction. This is insane spending. Probably more spending than the entire Eredivisie for the last 30 years combined. Maybe even ever. Like this winter window by EPL clubs probably outspends the history of the Eredivisie.

Add in expanding the size of the Super League and making no guaranteed spots. I think a lot of clubs formerly against it and (more importantly) their fanbases will look at it differently. The only fans that I could see standing with UEFA are either English fans or fans of clubs with a long history in the Champions League. Unfortunately, a lot of that support is probably behind the scenes. Not many clubs are going to come out in support until there are more details and more certainty behind the dollar figures.

It's actually funny how many epl fans opposed and still oppose the super league because they believe it will replace their domestic matches

Or as talk sport said tonight "Super league rearing it's ugly head again"
