SMS isn’t that good. He’s slow, he gets dispossessed easily, and he misplaces easy passes.

Balkan Fellaini.

If he wasn’t 190cm tall we wouldn’t even look at him.
Not sure you watched him play bro. Only thing you are correct on is he is slow.

You are so wrong. SMS might not be as good as the hype a year ago suggested, but he is really good and can potentially be great if he is able to improve on a couple of things.

Where you are right is that SMS could take the simple option more often. He too often tries to make something happen in crowded areas when he could simply pass the ball backwards and the team could start the build-up again. I don't see him being slow as a problem, but he needs to add some intensity to his game at times as he sometimes thinks his technical superiority is enough.

When I've watched Lazio this season I've been throughly impressed by his improvements though. Seems to be playing for the team and makes the meters to get back to defend. Before this season I considered him more as AM who didn't have tactical awareness or the work-rate to play as a CM but he has proved me wrong.

I think he is an AM minimum. Even better if he plays behind one striker, almost like an SS so he can be a target as well for high balls. I might be mistaken but I think Lazio is playing him even deeper this year? Last year he was behind just Immobile but this year they have 2 strikers then Luis Alberto, then SMS somewhere even deeper.

Obviously his main weakness is pace so playing deep hurts him as he can't get into the box quick enough.

Taking mediocrity on free or cheap is the reason our midfield is the state it is in.
