I wouldn't say he's been great, but he's been underutilized, ostracized, and has had his fair share of injury problems.

- - - Updated - - -

Players 30 or over:

Caceres
Chiellini
Bonucci
Barzagli
Matuidi
Khedira
Cuadrado
Ronaldo
Mandzukic

We're going to be needing 2 defenders, 2 mids, and 2 strikers in the not too distant future. Let's not fuck shit up this summer by at least getting one quality defender and addressing the midfield issue, a prevalent issue since we foolishly sold both Vidal and Pogba without adequately replacing them.

What a relief then that we didn't overspend last summer.

So, what do we do this summer? Get money for Higgy, sell Costa and some fringe players. Perhaps we could get another 20 million from Genoa for Perin? :boh:

We need De Ligt and Ndombele. We're already committing money to buying that Romero kid from Genoa, and probably Kouame as well.

Should we sell Rugani, in addition to Costa, to raise funds?

De Ligt and Ndombele alone will cost us 140+

Ramsey is coming in on a free, and Romero will probably be another 30 million. Let's assume our budget is 100 without sales. Where do we get that extra 70 million from?

Higgy 30?
Costa 50?

If we get Romero we won't be pursuing De Ligt. No way we're gonna spend 80 to 100 million on two under 23 CBs who will be begging for Chiellini and Bonucci to sprain a big toe just to get some minutes.

If we get either we'll extend Caceres and keep Rugani to make five defenders.

I don't expect huge spending in general after buying Cristiano last summer.

At best I'm hoping for a big midfield signing.

TO be honest, I doubt we get both De Ligt and Ndombele. At best we get one. De Ligt is unlikely if spend big on Romero. Ndombele is unlikely if a bidding war for him happens...

I could see us easily having a summer mercato with a CM like Barella or Zaniolo being our big signing, Tonali as a young guy to loan for a year, or see if he can do a Bentancur... And then Romero as the CB, and maybe a youngster or two. We'd likely go for Chiesa too if we sell Costa.

De Ligt and Ndombele would be amazing, but I find both less likely than we would all hope.

That would be underwhelming and disappointing. We didn't bring in Ronaldo to surround him with potential. Yes, Ndombele and De Ligt are still young and raw, but they're still one or two levels above guys like Barella and Zaniolo. Ndombele and De Ligt have been regular fixtures in their teams for some time now, and they both have CL experience (both their teams are in the RO16 as well). We need to strike early. I don't think Ndombele or De Ligt are going for more than 80 million each, and the Ronaldo factor might play in our favor. We can get both if we play our cards right. Maybe not both this season, but we probably won't need both this summer anyway. Focus on Ndombele, allow De Ligt one more season to grow @ Ajax, and then go all in for him in 2020 (we have good relations with Raiola, and we can probably secure some early deal with Ajax).

Romero is cheap, the salary matter alot. A players cost is salary/how much we paid divided with how long contract he gets.

Lets say Romero cost 30 milliion euros, gets a 5 year contract with 2 million euros a year. 30 milliion euros/ 5 = 6 million euros + 4 million euros a year ( before tax)
Thats a cost of 10 million euros per year. That is not much.

Lets say we bought James Rodriques for 40 million euros on a 4 year deal. Salary 6 million euros per year on a 4 year contract.

10+ 12= Cost of 22 million a year.

De Light 60 million, 5 year contract salary 5 million euros per year= cost 22 million a year.

this is how it works

The way I see it:

2019:
Tonali (30)
Ndombele (70)
Romero (30)

2020:
Kouame (30)
De Ligt (80)
Zaniolo (40)

I don't really think we need Chiesa, even if we sell Costa. We still have Cuadrado, and Kean can probably play as winger. He has all the necessary attributes, so perhaps we should give him an extended run of games. Most of our players are inconsistent anyway, so it wouldn't harm to play Kean in Coppa matches, easier league fixtures, etc...

Also, Barella might cost in excess of 50 million. If that's the case, Ndombele for 70 is a no brainer.

James would definitely boost our profile in South America, but I don't really know if we should be wasting time going after him. Both him and Isco are luxuries at this point, and we have other issues we need to address.

De Ligt isn't staying another year in Ajax that's for sure.
Y Not? He's still young. He's turning 20 in August. Another year in Holland isn't going to hurt his development. He can leave Ajax after the Euros in 2020.

It was just exampels of cost. But I do have a feeling Dybala will be sold if a big offer arrives. 100 million euros atleast. Not what I want but I can see it happen. James Rodriques is also a Mendes client. Would cost around 40 million euros. And it would mean that we have money for another big player like De Light/ Sergej Milinkovic/ Ndombele or whatever Paratici would like to add.

In some way Dybala isent used right in Juventus, he doesent have a natural position in our system. I would love to see him further up, close to CR7, but now he plays more like a midfielder.

Lets see what happens in the summer. If Allegri leaves after this season and maby Zidane arrives, im sure Zidane will have a say about Dybala and other transfers/sales.

Selling Dybala for James would be a horrible piece of business, even if we get a midfielder as well.

Dybala for Mbappe and Zaniolo and we can talk.

Given prices nowadays, 100 million for Dybala is terrible. Anything below 150 million is not worth considering.
