Simply not true. Bolivia has a homicide rate of 12.1 per 100,000 per year. You have to multiply that by life expectancy to get the probability of getting killed over your lifetime. That number turns out to be 0.84% (assuming a lifespan of 70 years)- twice that of the US.
I'm glad you did the math :p

Lol damn, it's actually easy to get murdered here.

We probably should not sell to muslims, goofy looking white people, white high school kids and NRA types. Require background checks for internet and gun show sales. Require extensive training and a recertification every few years. And yes, still not sell to people on the No Fly List. You know, do the reasonable things that reasonable people would do. The constitution says we should keep a well regulated militia, not an unregulated bunch of crazies.

But hey we can keep saying "we need more guns" and keep addressing the situation with thoughts and prayers because that's worked out so well so far.
Why is this suddenly ridiculed all over the States? It's a genuine question. This thoughts and prayers thing has always looked weird to me, but there has never been a response to it. Now suddenly there is.

What are your thoughts on CA having some of the toughest gun laws and something like this still happens? Also, where did the shooter buy the guns? If I heard correctly it wasn't a gun show it was from an actual store.

I agree completely with your points on background checks for internet and gun shows, training and RE-CERTIFICATION every couple of years and your other recommendations as well. Still, that said, what would have prevented this from happening?

I got it. Make the barrel non-cylindrical, bent inwards. So you put a bullet in, pull the trigger, and it doesn't fit through the barrel.

Thank me as you buy me a steak.
We need to get to an MVP first. We don't need to boil the ocean.

BTW how do you like your steak? Shot until it's medium rare? Or riddled with slugs?

Damn pinko commie SF liberals!

Guns are just safety theater anyway, like the TSA.
As it stands now guns are the most dangerous people on this planet. If we bomb the guns then we don't have to worry anymore.

Then the bombs will take over and we'll be even more fucked. The bigger problem is how will Ted Cruz fry his bacon when his machine gun is bombed to oblivion.

Probably because the thoughts and prayers guys are okay with selling guns to people on the terror watchlist.

Bombs are safer and more trustworthy than guns. Fact.

I would trust my bank information to a bomb 10/10 times over sharing it with a gun. Fact.

I think because it's such an awkward situation to address after a mass shooting that "thoughts and prayers" has become a de facto response of sympathy, much as a friend losing a loved one. Problem is that these ridiculous situations are happening so often in dysfunctional America that it gets to be like parrots in a bird cage repeating the same line, over and over again, every few days.

People have finally caught on to that. And after that being the only political response after each tragic mass murder, the response seems wholly inadequate relative to actually doing some real politicking and attempting something to improve the status quo. Spouting platitudes and leaving the situation as acceptable is insufficient.

So the big news is that they're gonna investigate this San Bernardino business as a terrorist incident.

Because it would have been such a world of relief if the 14 people only got murdered as part of a workplace incident? :wth:

I've always thought it was dumb. But now it's a big thing because of inaction on part of Congress.

There's a long gun loophole in the California law. Which is how these two were able to purchase their weapons.

You cannot prevent all mass shootings, this is obvious. But we really shouldn't make it easy for killers to purchase weapons legally.

Just cause these things are difficult to prevent doesn't mean we should sit on our hands and do nothing. The US is the only nation in the world with this frequency mass shootings, which should be unacceptable.

No one is saying the gun should go to prison.

But clearly it would help to have very strict gun laws. Less guns means less people killed by guns. This is so basic.. I can't believe that you are so unwilling to accept such a simple truth. And I don't know what good you think can come of your denial.
It's actually surprising that you, someone I consider to be intelligent, would have such a simpleton view on this matter. It's as if you think politicians can waive a magic wand and make the problems of the world suddenly disappear. There are all sorts of countries around the world that have strict gun laws and high homicide rates per capita. The US isn't Belgium or any other smaller European nation, so our problems are not homogenous. In Detroit, they are encouraging citizens to arm themselves, and we've actually witnessed quite a large drop in various crime. I'm sure to the dismay of many, this is a real-world example of deterrence, and not the prophecies of folks disconnected from reality.

Don't ask me for the data. You'll just deny it anyway. It has been presented a thousand times before, why would you accept it now? As for the difference between a citizen and the police, you're kidding, right?
What is the difference? Are you saying cops can't make poor choices, go postal, or have their weapons stolen? What about the US government shipping guns into Mexico, Syria, and Israel? Can they be trusted to administer gun laws for it's own citizens? Everybody else can be armed except for us?

Fat chance, dude. And good thing some folks here understand it.

Sure, but that wouldn't have stopped this terrorist attack. So why even discuss it?

It took a left-leaning paper to print a cover story about it for Americans to "catch on." Wow, give them a round of applause. "Long guns" (which the media started saying this time around) and prayers don't work, dude. Big fucking surprise that is.

I've always thought it was dumb. But now it's a big thing because of inaction on part of Congress.

Nobody is saying it is acceptable. But you won't change anything with the policies you propose, especially when you have a constant flow of "illegal" drugs and weapons across the borders, along with a government that ships arms around the world. If it was that simple, I would be all for it. But too many folks in this country simply parrot a Rachel Maddow script.

In translation, this means you simply can't sell to anyone, because we're all guilty until proven innocent. How are you supposed to predict who's a killer or not? Is this Minority Report?

At the end of the day, you'll just have to implement an outright ban.

Yeah, but they don't buy guns legally. And their gun deaths are within the normal spectrum of gun death. You know crime and shit.

Yay, so what now? We sit on our hands and say to ourselves "glad it wasn't me". Yay America. So exceptional, so wow.
