I think because it's such an awkward situation to address after a mass shooting that "thoughts and prayers" has become a de facto response of sympathy, much as a friend losing a loved one. Problem is that these ridiculous situations are happening so often in dysfunctional America that it gets to be like parrots in a bird cage repeating the same line, over and over again, every few days.

People have finally caught on to that. And after that being the only political response after each tragic mass murder, the response seems wholly inadequate relative to actually doing some real politicking and attempting something to improve the status quo. Spouting platitudes and leaving the situation as acceptable is insufficient.

Then the bombs will take over and we'll be even more fucked. The bigger problem is how will Ted Cruz fry his bacon when his machine gun is bombed to oblivion.

There's a long gun loophole in the California law. Which is how these two were able to purchase their weapons.

You cannot prevent all mass shootings, this is obvious. But we really shouldn't make it easy for killers to purchase weapons legally.

Just cause these things are difficult to prevent doesn't mean we should sit on our hands and do nothing. The US is the only nation in the world with this frequency mass shootings, which should be unacceptable.

It's as if you think politicians can waive a magic wand and make the problems of the world suddenly disappear. There are all sorts of countries around the world that have strict gun laws and high homicide rates per capita. The US isn't Belgium or any other smaller European nation, so our problems are not homogenous. In Detroit, they are encouraging citizens to arm themselves, and we've actually witnessed quite a large drop in various crime. I'm sure to the dismay of many, this is a real-world example of deterrence, and not the prophecies of folks disconnected from reality.

Don't ask me for the data. You'll just deny it anyway. It has been presented a thousand times before, why would you accept it now? As for the difference between a citizen and the police, you're kidding, right?

What is the difference? Are you saying cops can't make poor choices, go postal, or have their weapons stolen? What about the US government shipping guns into Mexico, Syria, and Israel? Can they be trusted to administer gun laws for it's own citizens? Everybody else can be armed except for us?
