Juventus’ sixth home game of the championship sees them pitted against Zeman’s Lecce in a match whose outcome could catapult the Bianconeri into first place in the overall standings. In fact, Deschamps’ men currently lie just one point behind joint-leaders Napoli and Piacenza, both in action on Saturday against Pescara and Albinoleffe respectively. Mondonico’s outfit from Bergamo held Juventus to a draw last weekend in a game conditioned both by injury – Del Piero, Trezeguet, Zalayeta and Guzman were all absent in attack – and by the sending-off of Buffon which forced Deschamps to replace Bojinov with Mirante just twenty-five minutes into the first half. Joelson put the home side ahead from the penalty spot and although Palladino levelled the scores after latching on to an inch-perfect cross from Balzaretti, the Bianconeri were unable to grab the winning goal. The draw in Bergamo was their third of the season so far, following on from the stalemates in Rimini and Naples. However, Juventus have taken maximum points from all nine other games this term, a run which has enabled them to cancel out the penalty and scale the league table in no time at all, right the way to the automatic promotion berths. The same cannot be said of Lecce, who arrive at the Olimpico on Saturday with just 14 points to their name and a modest position in the lower half of the table. While the Giallorossi have faired well on home soil, with three wins, a draw and two defeats at the “Via Del Mare” stadium, the men from Puglia have had rather more trouble on the road, taking home just three points on their travels with a solitary win away at Arezzo. Last Saturday saw them lose at home for the second time this season, a 0-1 defeat by Crotone, so it will come as no surprise if lively Lecce throw everything at Juventus this weekend to get their campaign back on track with a badly needed victory over Serie B’s ‘team to beat’.
