I have to attend a baptism on Sunday so I'm missing this game. The last time I was at a baptism was a certain Sunday in 2004, which was coincidentally the same day Juventus played Roma. Juventus lost 4-0 that day, and the way things are going I expect much of the same.
Then try not to get to the baptize on Sunday, who knows maybe it will be 4-0 to us...uehueuehuheueu,

Serie A Preview: Roma - Juventus

Who: Roma (1st place, 9 points) v Juventus (4th, 6 points)
When: Sunday, 23rd September 2007, kick-off 15:00
Where: Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Arguably the most in-form side in all of Europe, Roma go into this clash against Juventus with a perfect record. They will be quietly confident, as they have not looked like losing yet this season, nor even in danger of conceding a goal.

Following an unexpected slip up against Udinese last weekend, the Bianconeri will be desperate for their third win of the season to ensure that they remain in touch with the leaders.

Roma's Tough Road Ahead

Coming off the back of five consecutive victories, including three Serie A fixtures, one Champions League fixture and the Italian Supercup final, Roma are arguably playing the most attractive football in all of Europe.

With a perfect a record and no goals conceded, Roma face their first real test of the Serie A season, as they meet former Italian Champions and newly promoted Juventus, this weekend.

Although Juventus are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Udinese, the tie with Ranieri’s men marks the start of an extremely difficult period for the Romans, wherein they will go on to face Fiorentina, Inter, Parma, Napoli, Milan and Lazio, all within the next seven rounds.

Roma have been improving in every game, and were extremely impressive in their 2-0 demolition of Dynamo Kiev midweek. Spalletti has the Giallorossi playing a magnificent brand of Italian football, a form of the beautiful game that may be hard to stop for the remainder of the season.

In these next few rounds, wherein Roma will face their toughest opposition, the capiatl club must ensure that, whilst playing at home, they attain all three points,.This is a necessity if they wish to pose a serious threat for the Scudetto, and it must start this weekend against rivals Juventus.

In all seriousness, Roma have not really been tested thus far this season thus far, so it will be extremely interesting to see how they perform under intense pressure. Whether or not Juventus will be able to force the Romans in this way remains unknown, however, we will find out shortly.

Early Danger For The Bianconeri

Two victories from two matches, and things couldn’t be better at Juventus.

After a long, tough, and extremely arduous season in the Serie B, Juventus have earned the right to be playing alongside the elite of Italy. Having won the most Italian championships, the Bianconeri will desperately want to affirm themselves as one of the most powerful Italian clubs as soon as possible.

However, following a disappointing 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Udinese, Juventus will desperately seek points in this fixture, as a loss will see them six points adrift of the leaders, so early in the season.

A trip to Rome is never easy, and thus Juventus will be hoping that they are playing to the very best of their ability on the day. The danger of falling six points behind the leaders is not a good omen for the Juventus supporters, and to ensure this doesn’t occur, they must put up a fight this weekend at the Olimpico.

Juventus are a powerhouse club of Italy, and a chance for them to reiterate this point comes this weekend against Roma. It’s their first real test of the season, and they will have to put the loss to Udinese behind them, and focus on playing well and defeating the league leaders.

TEAM NEWS

Roma

Everything seems to be going right in Rome at the moment. With no suspensions or major injuries, Spalletti practically has a full strength squad to choose from.

Goalkeeper Doni has overcome the slight knock he received against Reggina, whilst Christian Panucci is still recovering from a minor injury. He should be fit to play, however if not, expect Cicinho or Cassetti to replace him.

Juventus

The major injury news over the past week for the Bianconeri, concerns Italian international Mauro Camoranesi, who suffered a thigh strain against Udinese, which will see him out of action for up to six weeks.

Along with Camoranesi, Grygera, Marchionni and Boumsong are also missing through injury, whilst right-back Jonathan Zebina sits out the second game of his four match ban.

POSSIBLE STARTING LINE-UP

Roma (4-2-3-1) - Doni; Tonetto, Mexes, Juan, Panucci; De Rossi, Pizarro; Taddei, Perrotta, Mancini; Totti.

Juventus (4-4-2) - Buffon; Chiellini, Criscito, Andrade, Birinidelli; Salihamidzic, Almiron, Zanetti, Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Roma – Francesco Totti: Talismanic Roma captain Totti has had another sensational start to the new season. With three goals in his past three games, he is already posing a serious threat for the top goal scorer spot in Italy, and perhaps all of Europe, once again.

He is a nightmare for all defenses to handle, so it will be extremely interesting to see how this new look Juventus defence work together to try and stop him. Such a creative and damaging player, Totti can turn the game of his own boot, at any stage in time.

Totti is a big name player, and a big game performer, so expect 'Il Capitano’ to have an outstanding game against Juventus this weekend.

Juventus – Alessandro Del Piero: The much-maligned Italian international, world champion and Juventus captain, Del Piero could still be a player that the Roma defence will have to keep a close eye on this weekend.

Such an experienced campaigner, he brings so much to the team, and is the main focal point of the Juventus set up. Although Roma may see the likes of Trezeguet and Nedved as more threatening than Del Piero, they will be aware of the fact that when given a few inches of space, Del Piero has the ability to hurt his opposition.

He is respected by all of his opponents, making him a player to watch in the upcoming game.

PREDICTION

Juventus will travel to Rome full of confidence, with the knowledge that they have taken all three points on their last two visits to the Olimpico, including a 4-1 victory in November 2005.

However, Roma are looking so good at the moment, that not even the Juventus of old would be able to defeat them this Sunday. After a fierce opening to the game, Roma will settle, and easily account for the visitors.

Roma 2-0 Juventus

Perhaps. On the other hand I think Del Piero is great coming off the bench and it's about time he himself should start realising it. Being benched doesn't necessarily mean you're a lesser player than the ones out on the pitch.
Problem is who will replace him? Iaquinta?

panucci improved this season from last season where his lack speed was really exposed and i think we can take an advantage of that.
Speed & Juve are not so compatible if you have not noticed.

Ahhh i just came back from my friends' house, they kept laughing at me and saying "minimum 3-0 to Roma" damn those EPL comercial fans

Now here i got broken heart some more. I understand if they have home advantage, ready-squad, boosted morale, and mind of revenge . Who knows guys, "Maybe" totti run here and there, then injured. De rossi step on the ball wrongly, injured. Mancini talk dirty to referee and red card. Mexes feel bad on nedved after what he did to Nedved on recent friendly, and own goal..... so on...

BUT "Maybe" We have back on feet, DP and Trez show the class football as usual. Nedved The Magician creates spells on the midfield. Tiago finally showing he is worth using Black & White, Domenico will be named after tomorrow's game as "The next Italian CB".

My Country's TVs prediction

roma 2 - 1 Juve

This season it has to be Iaquinta. Two tall strikers upfront can do a lot of damage to the opposion's defence if they link up well.Next season we can get a long term repacement for Del Piero and Iaquinta can go back to his role on the bench.
I must admit am not a fan of Iaquinta & he has not done anything to change my opinion of him yet while am desperately hoping that he somehow clicks I would never replace him with DP. Maybe try him on the right wing.

I'm sorry this place is stressing you out so badly...

here, take 2 aspirins and call me in the morning :D

another remedy may be to throw a warning a certain juve per sempre's way for some of the stupidity that comes out of his mouth when others dont agree with him
Stressed? Not at all. Bored? Yes, pretty much

Throw warning for stupidity? No,I'd rather not.

I will actually look at the thing in another perspective. I will just watch and see who will insult the other more.

I'm already optimistic...good stuff there Elv.

Sometimes, I think the game we lost against Udinese is really useful, for many reasons, not like we benifit alot from loosing the game but we can learn a thing or two.

And If loosing to Udinese would make things clearer for Ranieri how to play his formation what tactics how subs should be done etc... than I'm glad we lost earlier and not later.

So the mistakes we've done against Udinese can somehow be fixed in this game... it's true we have many players out of this game, but like i said before we also have some key players...and i for one, do believe in them. I've seen what they're capable of doing in the past, and i'm sure they'll put their everything in this game.

In good in bad, Forza Juve.

We aren't Scudetto contenders anyway.

We need to prove we are, rather than prove we aren't.
What I really like us to do is to show up for each and every game at full presence. We should approach each game as a championship game. We are underdogs in all the matches.

We certainly need to play at close to our full potential in almost every game to win.

In the past Juve sides could play at way below their full ability and still easily win games.
