Finally got around to watching Refn's The Neon Demon.

Interesting concept and as always, so very atmospheric. Refn has such a compelling style. That music-sound-light thing he has going on, the slow panning camera... Same with Drive and Only God Forgives. His style of filmmaking is entertaining and captivating, at times almost to the point of being breathtaking...

But this is one damn poorly written film. It's like a very very feeble Mulholland Drive. Colour me disappointed again. Refn nosedives into vapid banalities. Beautiful. Yes. But empty.

The last scene though. It's a wild one.

anyone seen District 9?

A most strange movie. It's basically a parody. But what of? Everything, apparently.
I thought it was average, didn't really enjoy it. Some people love it apparently.
District 9 was a great movie. The last part of it was pure sci-fi action (a good one) but the first 1h or something was fantastic.
It was a good movie, but didn't really enjoy it. All that buildup to feel sympathetic towards the prawns made me feel uncomfortable, almost an uncanny valley experience.
