So finally saw TDKR today. I went into it trying not to expect too much despite the rave reviews and was completely blown away.
I can't believe that I am saying this but now I can't wait for Superman!

It was the best of the trilogy and far superseded the other two for me. This one in my opinion is Oscar-worthy but we all know that the snobby Oscars will never nominate a super hero movie. And yes I am well aware that for it to be Oscar-worthy it needs to be a stand alone film but to me it was, and far more so than LOTR 3 and that won an Oscar.
While the movie itself is worth of an Academy, the performances weren't quite there. They ranged from good to very good but none of them great. Tom Hardy fell a little flat for me. He looked the part, but the expressions portrayed in his eyes never quite got there. I wanted to be scared by this formidable opponent who lacked in neither brilliance nor strength but even with the mask and the voice, it did little for me. Gordon-Levitt was really good. He made Blake a pleasure to watch. Hathaway made a really good Catwoman. I think this is the best acted version as well as best written version of Selina Kyle I've seen to date. Anne also steals the show from the other villain chick...Talia. Bale is good as the Dark Knight and he is my favourite Batman to date. Oldman plays a pretty mean mild mannered Gordon. Modine has been in the world of acting so long and yet still fails to impress me. Oh and the guy who unbreaks (yes I know that is not a real word) Bruce's back in prison was really, really good in his role as well.
So all in all a great day. Passed my exam, saw an epic Batman movie. Nothing but win/win.

I forgot. Was anyone else surprised when Blake turned out to be Robin? I thought for sure he was going to be Terry McGinnis!
The Joker was indeed better. The Joker was written with the best combination of madness and brilliance and Ledger was given quite a lot of room to work, with which he did a great job. Bane was inhibited by his mask but was still given a brilliant character to work with and he just didn't go the extra mile. Personally if I were an actor I would have taken it as a challenge and made Bane at the very least rise up to the level of the Joker.
Btw when the movie was over the whole cinema was silent and all I wanted to do was just scream "Brilliant!" out loud. Damn them!
I could have seen The Joker in Scarecrow's place in the 3rd movie. Somehow the role seemed more appropriate for The Joker and his madness than Scarecrow.

I was surprised. I always pictured Robin to be a bit gay P), so I didn't expect Blake to be Robin. Thought he'd be the new Batman after Bruce's death or something of that sort

As for the new Batman, I am glad someone else agrees with me. I won't lie at first I cringed at the thought that he might be McGinnis, mostly because I hated Batman Beyond, but Nolan set it up pretty well if he had turned out to be. But if he had to be Batman, I only wanted it for that movie alone and no further sequels. I thought after Bats had broken his back Blake would have donned the costume and become Terry but it didn't happen and Bale got to see his Batman out to the end.
As for the new Batman, I am glad someone else agrees with me. Bruce didn't die though? Maybe Batman died, for now, but he escaped the bomb. Remember he managed to fix the autopilot on the Bat.
My one problem was that Nolan co-wrote, co-produced and directed this incredible masterpiece, so why not use the best available talent to paint it? Had he used a more versatile actor as Bane, we would have definitely seen a difference. Maybe a Johnny Depp?
I have only judged Bane vs Joker based on the actors up until now. I will say this though:
My annoyance with Bane came strictly from not so great acting. If we're judging strictly from the way the characters themselves were written, the Joker was a brilliant lunatic while Bane was brilliance and brawn and will-full as hell. The Joker helped coerce Harvey to the dark side, brought down the mob and almost destroyed Gotham. Bane managed to bring Gotham to its knees and cut it off from the entire world. He was incredibly intricate in his planning and I would have put him one notch ahead of the Joker except for one little detail. He was working for Talia. Now I know that it was necessary to give the plot that beautiful little twist that it did at the end but I thought it emasculated him just a bit and I was disappointed for him.

You dont know the Bane character much do you? (original one) The fact that the twist was he was working for Talia is the most authentic bit of all when it comes to the character, he is a menacing and manipulative one man wrecking machine, but he allways been someones loyal henchman/tool of aggression, and him being head of League of Shadows made little sense, made much more sense he was working for Talia as revealed. Even if IMO the main weak points of the movie is how rashly/rushed they handled the Miranda/Talia character and in overall her scenes of explaining her motives bit over dramtically (plus her death scene was meh).
And FYI, Tom Hardy did a very good job, he was extremely imposing in almost all of his scenes, the best scenes from the movie are entirely with him, first fight with Batman and his lines there, and every single he uttered when he brought Batman to that prison (mental torture to the core), his lines were haunting.
