The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo
I'll do a short review. First off...
It is 2 hours and 40 minutes in length.
I liked it, though I think that many will not simply due to its length. It may be Fincher's most complete film, though Fight Club will probably remain my favorite.
Fincher does very well simplifying the narrative and cutting the large amount of unnecessary rubbish from the novel. Even so, it's still long and at times slow, though it's a purposeful slow (usually highlighting some important part of the narrative) which builds to quicker paced parts of the film. Think of it as a cross between Zodiac and Fight Club, cinematically not narratively of course.
The film was scored by Trent Reznor, (if you live under a rock, he is the creative force behind the industrial rock machine Nine Inch Nails). This was a gamble by Fincher, but it paid off as Reznor sets the tone beautifully. He manages to capture the softer moments as well as the dark.
I think if you're a film fan and prefer a solid story that is done very, very well you should see this movie. If you prefer to be entertained, but cannot give anymore than 80 to 110 minutes of your day, then this isn't for you. I think The Darkest Hour and Arthur Christmas are playing down the hall.
