Just watched The Master

Not quite sure what I think of the movie, I might have to watch it again. What I didn't expect was Joaquin Phoenix out acting Seymour Hoffman though :chan:

I thought they were both really good, but the story really wasn't. It was like There Will Be Blood where I really liked some of the performances but thought the film got lost somewhere between beginning and end.

The cinematography is pretty interesting as well.

Criterion rocks.

Not on their list, I saw this Sydney Pollack early effort last night:

Would have been fun if they kept the name of the original inspiration, Liver-Eating Johnson.

Not bad, in an early 70s way reacting to all the Westerns that came before it...
Criterion is alright. They just grab up every interesting film ever, throw a fancy box on it, add some extras features and charge you 30 bucks for a DVD.

I'll watch it again to see if something clicks, but I agree on the acting and the cinematography. Insanely long shots, my modern movie brain kept waiting for new angles :fret:

As for There Will Be Blood, in my opinion, it's a vastly superior movie to The Master (prior to the second viewing). Everything about that movie worked for me.

Iron Sky - I do love me some sillyness every now & again, and this delivered. Sure, the last 10-15 min, where they need to wrap everything up, come pretty close to being a drag, but what comes before is some thoroughly enjoyable nonsense.

I'd argue that the script and cinematography is better than the Fast and Furious series :agree:

She does have something about her, I'll get on it when I'm done crushing on Emma Stone.

Emma Stone is in Super bad? Lol yeah it took a while to notice her. Re watched few series and movies where she was while back you barely noticed her in (like the TV series Drive). Attention grabber since Easy A basically.

Re-watched Leviathan the other night. It's a rip off of The Thing and Alien, more a rip off of The Thing really. About the same thing except instead of it being set in an isolated station in Antartica they are at the bottom of the ocean, Atlantic, I think. And there are a couple girls in it. Best 'thing' about The Thing is it is one of the very few guy only movies that isn't gay porn. :)

They weren't supposed to be serious, the cholos bangers in the movie were posers and amateurs, low level runts that were being used by the cartel.
