But Handanović simply isn't better than Buffon. He's a good-to-great keeper, but Buffon is just so obviously a level above him.

And while arguing about the abilities of GKs is very very difficult anyways, but stats tell nothing at all in that regard. Post goals for which Buffon is rrsponsible in your opinion or whatever, but stats are meaningless here.

I'm not jumping head-first into a semantic debate of what a discussion entails, but what kind of argument of that?

When I say why Handanovic is better, I'm accused of only saying it because I support Inter (or being mentally ill or whatever). When i pull out stats, they don't matter. I'm not a crusade to convince you otherwise, but I've yet to hear more than one counter-argument that isn't something along the lines of "you're retarded" or "Buffon is better" (none of them very constructive).

Could you make an argument that Handanovic as been better than Buffon this season? Yes. However, it's one half of one season. Also, saving shots isn't the only mark of how great a goalkeeper is. Collecting crosses is also important, being able to distribute the ball out from the back is also important. Something Handanovic is known for doing very poorly at times and putting his defenders under pressure.

I'd agree somewhat with the sentiment that Serie A isn't what it once was, but for how long are we going to repeat the statement? It's akin to beating a dead horse at this point. In my opinion, the league is more even than it's been in 10 years, and all of the top teams bar Juventus and Lazio have improved since last season. The timing of the many "well, what a shit league"-posts on here and Juventus' poor form doesn't exactly seem like a coincidence, when that statement certainly wasn't thrown around when Juventus were steamrolling the league with minimum of opposition. It ends up sounding like sour grapes, most of all.

And just to add fuel to the Handanovic-Buffon fire, the former is currently shared second in the top 5 European leagues for clean sheets, and has the highest save-rate (82.6) in the league.

People here have been badmouthing the quality of Serie A for the last 5 years. Especially the year we steamrolled Serie A with 102 points. Yep. We all said Serie A was complete crap.

And now here it goes. The only team competitive in Europe in Serie A, Juventus, dismantled that team. Roma has 2 points and bottom of group in CL. Viola have 3 points and bottom of group in Europa. Inter isn't even playing in Europe and certainly doesn't have the squad depth not attack to do so competitively.

This is the worst Serie A in years mostly because the catastrophic drop off of Juventus isn't made up for by a bunch of mid table teams slightly improving. The top end of Serie A sucks. The only reason the league is even is because Marotta walked out team off a cliff in the summer. Last season's Juve would probably be unbeaten right now. It's not even a debate.

Haha no, but you are right. It's more competitive, but only because we are in transition period. Last year's Juve team would lead this league with 9 points. It's still a long way for us, but if the team finds it ground and wins 3-4 matches in a row we can at least put up a fight this season.

Sure, and I've already touched upon those things. Distributing isn't really that important for a goalkeeper, unless you play in a team where backpasses happen often, or your name is Manuel Neuer - it's a good trait to have, sure, like Delaps throw-ins, but a goalkeeper's lack thereof can easily be played around or avoided is what I'm trying to say (as in, the exact opposite of what we did versus Fiorentina, but that was Mancini's fault - it's like playing high crosses to a midget, and then complaining he isn't getting on the end of them)
It's true, his main weakness has always been collecting cross, but it hasn't really stood out this season.

That's not the narrative I've heard uttered or written by the Juventus' fans I've encoutered over the years, but fair enough.
Also, I don't really think the current European results tells us much. Unless you'd like me to believe that Bate are better than Roma and Fiorentina are the worst team in a group consisting of Basle, Belenenses and Poznan - or that you are currently better than City. I think we should wait for the season to finish, to really judge the Italians in Europe and whether it has any bearing of the comparative, overall quality.

The other teams have improved but all of them still lack a lot of ideas on how to operate as a team. The inconsistency and the fact that no team has been able to take control of the table and that with all our fuck ups we can still see a light by the end of the tunnel make the league more interesting. However more interesting does not mean stronger.

I refuse to have hope at the moment because it has only brought disappointment, I am pleased though with the outcome of the matches this weekend and I only have hopes for the coming weekend only to witness something similar.
