Diego was proven and so was Amauri,Poulsen,Tiago,Andrade and Grygera. And used to be labelled as quality players.
Like i said Forlan would be so welcome here but not for that price, i dont want to spend 15 mill on something you call a quick fix meaning 2/3 years if he doesnt get injured.
My point is not that hard to see.
Does that mean we should pounce on non-proven and medicore players?

Now that we've lost Quag our attack is nonexistant, we have noone to create and score goals, as we could see from the matches against Parma and Napoli.

Our midfield isnt all that either, we're too slow and too predictable because we only depend on Krasić.
No arguments here.

We really dont have much choice, if we dont bring in some quality we will most probably miss the CL again and that could have much worse long term consequences than the 30 mil € we'd spend on Forlan.
Let's pretend we do have the required money & are willing to use it, which I doubt.

Which would be the best deal?:

- spending 30 million € on an older player, knowing full well that in 2 years time his actual value would be (close to) 0.

or

- spending for example 40 or 50 million € (all in) on a younger player, knowing you could use him for a longer period and/or recuperate a big chunk of money when he leaves.

Taking into account that no player (not Forlan, not Pazzini, not Messi, ...) can guarantee us CL qualification.

I agree that we need to take risks & I agree that it better happens fast. But let's not create an even worse situation.
And I really believe that if we do get Forlan now, we will not get another attacker in the summer, at least not a real reinforcement. Which would mean playing a season with DP, Toni, Forlan, maybe one of Iaquinta/Amauri, Quag(?), some young dude.

I agree that it would be better to spend 40 or 50 million on a younger player (like Dzeko for example). Hell, if we got someone like that nobody would be talking about Forlan.

Thing is, there are no such players on the market, and the only reason why we have a realistic chance of getting FOrlan is because of his age. WE have no chance of getting someone of FOrlans quality but a few years younger, especially not now in January. THats the problem.

Meh, I'd disagree with that. If we're willing to spend 25-30m on a transfer fee & another 15-20m on wages over 3 or so years, there are bound to be quite a few possibilities on the market.

There are, like Dzeko was. Problem, agan, is that they are either unavailable in January or we'd have to compete with other big clubs who (almost all) have more money... just like Dzeko.

Nah, Dzeko was too expensive anyway, unless he was willing to earn about half at Juve compared to what City was offering.

As for them being unavailable, that depends.
Take Pazzini (just as an example, nothing more), he is considered to be unavailable right now. However, if we throw 25 million at Samp, they'd probably deliver him overnight.
Same would go for a lot of players.

And just in case I'm beginning to sound like someone who doesn't care for Forlan: he is a great player. And I obviously don't have anything against him playing for Juve as such. But not if it means spending big.

Marotta won't be able to cope this deal I dare to say,he was good blaming Momo but we all know how impotent he is for unable to offload Amori for Gods sake.
I'm getting tired of these things :groan:
