"Hormel, who describe themselves as “leader in breakfast meats in America,” are known for their bacon and other cured meat products.

But now they’ve branched out into what they call “breathable bacon.”

Breathable Bacon, according to Hormel, is a revolutionary face mask “featuring the latest in pork-scented technology.”

It features a two-ply multi-fibre filter “to keep the delicious smell of bacon always wrapped around your nose and mouth.”

It still stuns me how Westerners are completely ignorant of Asian past experience with pandemics and their present experience with this pandemic.

Take Taiwan. They have been "post-pandemic" for months now with virtually no locally transmitted cases, Taipei has hosted musical concerts of 10,000 people, pro baseball has had full stadiums for months, etc.

Meanwhile, you get the US saying, "We give up trying to control this thing." And Westerners simply presume it's impossible and anybody who says otherwise is lying or making fake news. Asians have been readily wearing masks since SARS in 2003, but Westerners still argue that they don't do anything and are made to emasculate fearful people.

How much willful ignorance does a society need about this?
It's not about Asian past experiences, it's specifically about China. I find it very difficult to believe that with over 10 times the population, China has low double and single digits cases while South Korea and Japan, for example, have cases numbering in the hundreds with how well they've handled it.

Taiwan is a silly example just like new Zealand, an island in the middle of nowhere that restricted travel very early.
The country that is a resounding success is Sweden, but you won't mention it because it proves all of you wrong.
How is Sweden a resounding success?
High number of per capita deaths, and their economy still tanked.

Oh and by the way, calling Taiwan a small country helps the argument that they handled it exceptionally.
Their population is twice that of Sweden and four times that of New Zealand. Their population density is 26 times that of Sweden and 34 times that of New Zealand.

I think we should just be put on total freedom. And whatever happens happens. Who wants to wear a mask, wear it, if not, fuck it. Break the medical system which will point out how much money went on guns for no reason, yet our medical system sucks.

A total lockdown of 3-4 months will bring a catastrophe and people will die of hunger because not everyone has saving accounts like big boy countries.

Gordo.

Amazing how someone so wrong about nearly everything can be so arrogant about his own “opinions” and derisive about everyone else’s. :baus:

Sweden - 586 dead/million

Sweden doesn’t border any of the hard hit countries in Europe, not one. The two countries that act as a buffer zone for Sweden, Denmark (5X the population density) and Germany (10x the population density):

Denmark - 123 dead/million
Germany - 123 dead/million

Someone needs to get out of his right wing, libertarian conspiracy theory echo chamber, where he just cherry picks the very few random stats that suit his argument.

Unfortunately those in big boy countries don't even really have much savings either.

Not sure what that has to do with disputing the numbers coming out of China, but...

Getting reports of hoarding again. Seems people think the US will follow Europe and shut down again.
My brother in Chicago said indoor dining has been ended as the numbers are skyrocketing. And dining out in Chicago in Novermber is pretty much a no-go for any sane person.

I don't know how you guys manage to spend so much, you have 10-20x higher wages. Or you don't know to handle money.
both. In America it’s also not as popular to live with the family so you’ll see people struggling to make it in their own when they’re not earning that much. And the really poor people will end up working two jobs and won’t have time to cook, etc so they’ll just eat fast food to get by.

but overall, yeah there is a huge consumerism mindset and people mismanage the fuck out of their money

indoor dining in Philadelphia opened up but now we have riots so the cars on fire make outdoor dining possible again. Silver linings.
