Yes, exactly. This season I'd trade 3 points in Serie A for both Coppa and SuperCoppa in a heartbeat. In close seasons I very much prefer the Conte-era Juventus approach of playing absolute reserve squad in all the Coppa stages.
Do you know by heart how many Coppas Juve have? 12, 13, 14? I don't really care. Yet I know the amount of Scudettos of Juve, Inter, Milan, Roma (lol) by heart, have an approximate idea about Bayern in Germany, Barca and Real in Spain and United and Pool in England. Also know by heart the CL numbers of Juve and have a close idea about most top clubs. Do I have any idea about how many Coppas Inter or Milan have? Or how many DFB-Pokals (or whatever it's called) Bayern have won? Copa del Rey's for Barca and Real? FA cups for Pool/United? FA Cup used to be at least a bit prestigious, but these competitions hardly matter, no one cares about them and it only becomes relevant if you have a shot at treble or smth. Or if you're a Lazio/Napoli level club.

Disagree. imo Serie A and CL are much more important than the Coppa Italia. Its not even close.
Last few years I'd come to expect the Scudetto and that comfort led to expectations in Coppa Italia too. Right now I'd throw the Coppa Italia for any extra points in Serie A.
I don't think we will miss 4th but I'm also not convinced its a certainty. With Covid finances we need to make 4th and guarantee Champions League for next season.
What is the prize money for winning the Coppa Italia? Does it pay for one month of Ronaldo's wage? I'm guessing no. Serie A and CL success is critical not just for glory but the longer term stability of the club. Coppa Italia means dick.

I agree with kylo. in normal seasons absolutely we need to go for every trophy. but this isn't a normal season. our squad is full of injuries + risk of covid and tiredness. and this is before pirlo's tactics come into play. we need to shield our important players as much as we can from risk.

Then why have backups and reserves if you're never going to use them? Fielding your 2nd squad doesn't mean you automatically forfeit, in Contes first season we got to the Coppa final using almost no starters in the Coppa games. The will to win must still be there, but you need to plan according to your priorities Beating Inter in Coppa isn't worth the dropped points in Serie A or the contribution it had to injuries for McKennie, Arthur and Cuads.
Losing the chance at a 10th consecutive scudetto would be extremely annoying, but it's obvious that this is a unique run and it's far more normal that you don't win it every year.
Inter had a long run simply because of Calciopoli and had a free run at building a super team. But they got old and weren't replaced in time. Milan stepped in for one and then our massive run began. We haven't made the same mistakes with lack of rejuvenation, it's just that it hasn't always been in the right areas of the team, and the coach selections were a roll of the dice.

I actually see it as we have made the same mistakes as Inter did after their trebble. Their mistakes appeared too fast partly because of that Milan team that took the title from them and partly because of how strong we came steam rolling. We have obviously built a stronger legacy and that's why the fade took longer to appear but it was appearing since Allegri's last season. Also another factor is that we made the large too big that the others took time to rise. It was that obvious from last season how strong INter are coming.
What annoys (-ed, not anymore) me most is that we repeatedly said that we should not repeat Inter's mistakes yet we did. We got blinded by success and ignored. We heard it tons of times that the squad is too strong and improving it is not an easy task. Look at the squad now, it needs improvements almost everywhere.

I don't think we made Inter's mistakes. They had a very old squad with a sharp decline and subsequent sharp transition.
Our management has been very proactive in this sense. Before our spine got too old we already had replacements lined up and it's made more of a multi-year soft transition. The level did drop, I think that's inevitable since had such a legendary group and period, but its still kept extremely high.
Our team today looks nothing like our 2013 team yet we have won 9 scudettos in a row.
To commit Inter's mistakes IMO would mean that after Pirlo, Vidal, Barzagli, Chiellini left, declined, or were injured for a long time we would drop and end up making a new team in a rush.
We can make an excellent U30 team with players that never played for Conte
Szczesny, Alex, De Ligt, Demiral, Danilo, Bernardeschi, Bentancur, Rabiot, Chiesa, Dybala, Kulusevski
We can almost make a very good young lineup that didn't play for Allegri
Frabotta, De Ligt, Demiral, Danilo, McKennie, Rabiot, Ramsey, Chiesa, Kulusevski

That's a young core. The team added a lot of younger players so I'd imagine and hope we do that again this summer. Bring back Romero for CB if we can to replace Chiellini. I'm on the fence if we need a backup for Danilo/Cuads on the right side. Gonna need a new backup striker for Morata as well. I do think we need a new starting LB as Sandro sucks. Would like Gosens and give him a shot. Germans tend to be no nonsense

We expected difficulties this season so whatever, I don't mind the transition I just hope we keep going in that direction. GOD I hope we integrate some of our own youngsters too. We have some decent prospects that should be given time in the first team.

That, in combination with players that didn't live up to the expectations is the reason we find ourselves where we are now.
Tbh I don't know what we were thinking. Yes, we had been lucky with free and/or cheap deals in the past but you can't keep expecting every one of those to turn out good.
But then our latest deals weren't even cheap salary wise they were just gambles.
You see, big clubs when they lose a top player they replace him with another top player. Since Vidal, Pirlo and Pogba there wasn't a single player brought in anywhere near that kind of talent. That alone shows we've been sloppy, overlooking one, if not the most important area of the pitch while "strengthening" our attack and defense. And even that could be argued, Chiesa and Kulu weren't proven players and Morata was yet another gamble that lucky for us worked out fine.
Bottom line is that those players (most of them anyway) have no place in a team that's been "built" around a legend of the game to win the CL.

No, they haven't. They brought a bunch of average players. If basic passing and defending is your definition of talent then Padoin was a king.
