Look I like the guy as much as the next person and was rooting for him to score tonight god knows he needed it. I concur that he has the best movement and positioning in our team. But it's obvious that the man really lacks the confidence needed in a striker and sure we all hope for him to be able to get over this wall, but we're at an important stage in the season, I can't help but think had we not been winning 3-0 or 4-0 in this game, the scenario in this thread would be VERY different .... it's great to see the support Matri has received (or receiving), but until he proves himself and stop doubting himself it's going to be tough for him to score the goals. I hope he does though, and would love to for him to get more chances, but I'm not sure if we can really afford that either.

Have you guys noticed that whenever we play Matri, we score more? Like the first half of last season we were killing it. I think it may not be the 3-5-2 formation as much as the movement a player like Matri brings. Our midfield gets more space to move forward and score more. Boriello didn't provide movement, he provided hold up play, which meant he was easier to mark and thus defenders wouldn't be scrambling all over the place trying to nullify potential danger.

:agree: that's what a few of us have been saying for a while now.

He's not to blame at all IMO. It could be Higuain or Benzema in his place and if they were playing as little qs he was, they'd struggle in this set up too. What happened in the game is not a reflection of his ability, but has more to do with his self belief.
No, they wouldn't.

The one on one was just terrible, you always go outside when facing a goaler, not inwards!!

But his movement is the best of all our strikers. I really wanted him to score, but the more chances that he missed/fucked up the more irritated I got, and by the time he missed the one on one I was swearing my head off...however I was happy that he got the assist for Quag's goal!

Chelsea will be pissing themselves laughing if he plays against them, can you really see them being scared of him? Not Juventus standard if you look at who we have had over the years, yes he does have good movement and got an assist last night, he's a decent striker on his day but he is not good enough for a side like Juve, he should be playing for someone like Lazio IMO.

Hopefully we can fetch a decent amount for him in January, as I've stated before I've lost patience with Matri after too many easy chances that he has blow that I can't even give him any sympathy or benefit of the doubt when he misses a chance any more.

No striker of ours will scare Chelsea anyway. We might as well play the best we have.

Good movement, holds up the ball quite well, but a striker needs to score goals, and he fails to do that consistently. How long has it been now since he last scored? I know he hasn't been getting many opportunities, but neither has Quag (and I'm no supporter of either, as I feel they aren't good enough), yet he has already scored on a few occasions this season, including twice in the CL. Torres does the exact same thing as Matri, and he gets shat on all the time for his failure to score (notwithstanding his goal yesterday).
