I can't agree with that. The penalty had the potential to cost Australia the game and did, just as the red card could have cost Italy the game. If Italy had 11 men they very well might have won anyways.

I didn't say that the ref made up for the call, but the call itself makes up for the red card. We got a bad decision and they got a bad decision, it evens itself out.

When it was 11 v 11 Italy created more chances and better chances. They allowed Australia to have the ball because they weren't doing anything with it. The red card was undeserved and nearly caused Italy to go out of the competition. The controversial penalty makes up for that.
