But Poland qualified fair and square...I was merely talking about their performance in which they were beaten soundly by one of those supposed 'crap' South American teams. Then you Europeans want there to be more spots for your own nations and less for South America..

All this talk is just so nonsensical it's absolutely pointless. No matter what system of qualification you set up or who you admit to the finals somebody will always be screwed over or think they are screwed over because of it. There is no perfect tournament system in world football and that's just how it is.

yeah, that is a bit amusing, as Andy said there's never gonna be a perfect system but I'm sure it could be improved upon. Its also a tad unfair that oceania get no automatic spots, the aussies are certainly good enough to play world cup football.

sure, what is wrong with that?

the likes of Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Ghana south africa etc..? or the likes of Paraguay, Chili, Venezuella colombia and the other shity teams? Africa games is improving day by day, African players are regulars now in the best clubs of the world, and what about South America? whcih team makes threat in this tour other than Argentina and Brazil?

other than Brazil and Argentina, there are 8 teams left there (If I am not mistaken) 2 from those Crap teams is more than enough..
Its Chile and Venezuela btw

Because Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt are better than Chile, Uruguay, Colombia...

Just so you know a BUNCH of South American players play in Europe as well... Starting with Roque Santa Cruz!!!!

I dont know why you're comparing the hardest confederation (besides UEFA) in the World with such history (South America has won NINE World Cups!!!!!) to the African one

That's why they have to qualify isn't it. If they are sure to win their group (which they always do), it would be like an automatic qualifying spot for them, wouldn't be fair to say Uruguay. I don't think it's unfair they have prove they are better than the 5th (!!) South American team to qualify.

I don't understand why there is so much disrespect towards South America within this thread. As Fabiana stated COMNEBOL is easily the most difficult qualifying confederation in world football besides UEFA and I would like to see a tournament between Africa and South America because I'm fairly certain the former would be absolutely owned. The history of South American football is so much richer than that of Africa that it is an insult to even begin to compare. Africa is indeed improving every step of the way, however they do not deserve seven spots in the World Cup. That's just madness.

Place Ivory Coast in CONMEBOL and they wouldn't even qualify.

The only thing that needs to be improved upon is giving Oceania one automatic spot. Then have the 5th place from Africa play the 5th place from South American in a playoff to reach the finals. LOL Angola or Tunisia against Uruguay...wonderful.

Wouldn't be a "world" cup though without somone from that region participating. Yes, they would almost certainly be straight in every year but if we're going to have a regional qualifying system (as its by far the most logical) it seems only fair that even in the weaker continents you have automatic qualifiers.

The likes of Uruguay should also be in with a beter chance of getting there though, there are some quality teams in south america, the balance needs redressig. Not sure the exact numbers but maybe there should be an asia/africa play off system rather than the current one. Certainly Africa, how the hell togo and angola can be at the world cup and uruguay aren't is baffling

Agreed. I would like to see an all-American qualifying zone though. I think it might improve the quality of say the US and Canada.

That would be interesting. I guess they would therefore award us 8 spots to the finals, and I would have to say only the US and Mexico would be the nations qualifying north of Caracas. I would be up for that only if they give us 8 spots to work with...anything less and my boys might not even qualify. :D

Make it seven and we have a deal..!

Seriously though, the problem with the Concacaf right now (I think) is that the US really only have crappy nations to compete with, that's not helping them. Friendlies against Italy and France are nice, but they're friendlies...

Oh fuck off, we qualified fair and square, we nearly even won the group ahead of England. We also beat Croatia (very luckily) in our last friendly last week. Just because we lost a few friendlies is no reason to claim we didn't deserve to play in the World Cup. FFS Frankowski and Zurawski scored 13 goals between them in the qualifiers.
with a performance like that, sorry my friend, but I don't think we (at least) deserve to whatch your NT.

I know what I am talking about, put Argentina and Brazil aside (I have nothing to say against them), and compare the numbers of players of Africa in major leagues to south America.

everyone became experts now

It is indeed a problem and playing the likes of Brazil and Argentina would only help our soccer progress. Moreover, playing those said countries on home soil in matches that actually matter would stir interest and be the biggest matches we have had here since World Cup 94, and they would be absolute battles. But in reality we would finish below those said countries (obviously) in qualification, and probably face stiff competition from Paraguay, Uruguay, and of course Mexico, not to mention a for sure loss in Quito. So that only puts us behind six nations, which still spells qualification for my country as long as FIFA gives us seven spots. However, I think eight would be a little more fair considering the circumstances.

Don't watch it then. Seriously don't. Go throw in some old tapes of African Nations Cup instead.

There's no dispute in my argument.

Well of course Africa is going to have more players than South America in major leagues if you exclude Brazil and Argentina...65% of the continent's population. That's a difference of 44 countries. :howler:

Such wonderful logic in this thread..

I'd much rather see 7 African countries than to see the likes of Nicaragua, Panama, Bolivia, etc. play. They bring much more exciting football, team work with individual talent, the cinderella factor, etc.

Two of the nations you've mentioned aren't even part of COMNEBOL.
