Just as you can't legitimately have a World Series in baseball without considering the likes of Japan, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, etc., no World Cup can be without the represented continents. Each time I start liking the idea of WC play helping to change how wide the qualification brackets are for each continental football federation, I keep coming back to the WC becoming less and less of a true world event.

We all know that South America have better quality on average, the problem is that only 2 countries from there prove it consistently. If there were 30 odd ,countries in south america, i would advocate for like 10 or so but since there are like 10 of them why should 5 be allowed to qualify for wc. No other continent has a 50% ratio of qualification. Basically the world cup used to be essentially Europe vs South America but we have moved on from that.
Even Ecuador is a not what people think they are, and German proved it. this is what happens when you put Ecuador Costa Rica and Poland in the same group, and Ivory coast Holland and Argentina in the other, or put Ghana in the same group with Italy and Czech rep. they still have the chance thou..

When has Poland proved anything in the world cup? They continually disappoint and always freeze on the very big occasions since the heady days of Boniek, Lato and Deyna.
South American teams should not really include Brazil or Argentina as there is no world cup without them anyways. Ecuador were the only ones that qualified with Paraguay going at first phase and Uruguay going out to Australia at pre qualifying stage. Ecuador to be fair are a credit as they qualified from that group as Ghana.
Ivory coast have done very well , also Australia have also done very well. T& T have every reason to be proud when you consider their population and no, they did not score but they performed better than i thought they would and were never embarassed by any team.

Ukraine are very fortunate to be there and are probably the worst team to go through
