I see you just woke up and didnt read the forum for a week. Good. I'll brief you.

We are talking about a 4-2-3-1 formation. A formation that has double wing coverage with workhorse wingers. Such formation does not require attacking fullbacks. No the only value of the fullbacks is quite simply the defensive strenght. Better defence makes better player for the position.

For this reason, Ogbonna and even chiellini would be massive there. Ogbonna has the added value that he can move up behind his winger, and is a trustworthy lay-back target, as he has good control and passing for a defender.

People need to start realising that juventus is a team of defensive might, aggression, pressing, but mostly dislocating opponent tactics and forcing them on our own.

That doesnt work with 7 offensive players.

Let me give you a blueprint of an ideal, juventus. Workhorse wingers are impossible to fund, but everyone knows their style

You will not go anywhere with Ogbonna as a LB. He's not any stronger than a normal LB because playing fullback takes different defensive characteristics. Suddenly, Ogbonna's strength and aerial ability is not even being used which is one of his main advantages.

Someone like David Alaba is better defensively at LB than Ogbonna because he can run the whole field and has the agility to match tricky wingers. CBs are built to mark in tight spaces with lots of cover around them, not be exposed in space all the time.

This is not even taking into account how bad he is compared to other LBs with the ball. He can play LB only if you park the bus and have a slow game with lots of cover around him, where the 1 on 1 encounters are very few and don't occur in dangerous wide areas.

You can't just put a CB at fullback and expect improved defense.

And also, in this period of football you need complete players, not one dimensional. Your fullbacks defend and attack, your wingers attack and defend. Your defensive mid plays the ball and runs and tackles, etc.

I don't think Cuadrado is a likely option as well.

Menez would be an interesting option considering he would come for free.

Biabiany is possible too. His pace is outrageous, which could be of value to us. Take Gervinho for example, the guy relies on his pace and when he's backed up by a good team, good things happen. :D
He's the French Krasic, no thanks.

Cuadrado?!

Montella was told an Arsenal scout was in the stands of the Stadio Bentegodi to watch Cuadrado, but laughed at the rumoured €30m offer.

“Is that €30m for half? I’m sure he’ll stay with us, then we’ll see what happens in June.”

Vidal-Pogba-Asamoah, imagine the muscularity, we'd kill every midfield with such force. Granted, it could lack creativity.
Creativity would come from our wingers. Something similar if not the same I posted the other day. But Pogba, Vidal and Asamoah in the middle :tuttosport:

Starting XI with subs:
Buffon (Storrari)
Licht (Cacares)-Barzagli (Bonucci)-Chiellini-(Ogbonna)-Cacares (Peluso)
Vidal (Radja)-Pogba (Jorginho)-Asamoah (Marchisio)
(Jorginho) Menez-Llorente (Vucinic)-Tevez (Giovinco)
Caballero
Lichtsteiner-Barzagli-Chiellini-Coentrão
Vidal-Pogba-Asamoah
Menez-Llorente-Tevez
:D

So another unrealistic target basically. (Talking about Cuadrado)
Funny thing is even the likes of Biabiany wud cost upto like 20m in total.
So we are left searching for bargains, most prolly someone like Menez.

I doubt we have the finances to buy both Jorginho and Radja.

Depends on a few things. Will there be fierce competition for them next summer with the likes of City and Inter? Will we manage to sell some of the less important players and reduce our wage bill? There's always an option to co-own or send some of our younger players in other direction as a part of the deal. Various possibilities lie ahead.

There's no reason to believe we even have 10 million to spend. Shirley, 40 wouldn't be a problem at all.
One could only assume. Neither you, nor I, know what the budget is. The of course you do was pure hyperbole on my part.

Ideally, if we play our cards right, we can get Coentrao, Radja, and a RWF (not Menez) by the summer. I really like Kagawa as well, and felt we should have tried harder for Honda, as he is very energetic, hard working, and versatile.

While it's right that you can only assume, if you take a look at the financial reports, statements, etc, you'd see that there may be very little room to operate.

In fact, if we go out of the CL too soon, we'll either be forced to sell or need a new cash injection by the time summer comes around.
