I wasn't talking about you. Just in general. Europe as a whole is moving towards making these types of changes. The French have done it, the Swiss have done it, the Dutch are almost there if not already (I'm not sure), there is a stir in Sweden already and the most racist political party there is gaining a lot of support which is very unusual.

My point was that if there is support and action is/will be taken against such things then I'm sure the people can press for a non-religious holiday.
That won't just make Christmas as it is today go away though. It'd take generations for that to happen.

Christmas as it is is nothing to do with christianity, its more a day for santa than it is jesus.

Ze if the end of Ramadan fell on the 25th of december every year and christmas didnt exist, but i still had a meal with my family and we shared gifts would that make us hypocrites? Because that is essentially what you are saying i am doing by doing that on the same as a the Christmas festival. What i do has NOTHING to do with any religion, i eat a meal and i give presents, just because i live in a 'christian' nation, does not make me a christian or a hypocrite.

Yes it would! The whole reason we celebrate the end of Ramadhan (Eid) is because we fasted for an entire month. I would feel really shitty celebrating Eid if I had not fasted (unless I had an excuse i.e.).

That's different though. Every (most) countries have a national holiday like that. St Patrick's day, Australia Day, St George's Day etc.
Isn't that the point of a National holiday? Either they commemorate something important (or thought to be important) or they are religiously based.

If you want a "non-religious holiday" aside from commemorative holidays, you'll find you get two of them every 5 days.:D

*hypothetical*

But the point is, i am not celebrating that. Just because it would fall on the same day, does not mean we are celebrating the same thing!

*hypothetical end*

Is that what you can't agree with? That two things can be celebrated on the same day? I know im repeating myself but today is a day for family and showing appreciation for family, i dont care why other people do that on this day, that is their choice (a stupid one) and it is my choice not to celebrate the day in the same way as them. Does this make any sence to you, or am i still a hypocrite?

Curr help me out here.

Well the reason we celebrate Christmas is because we want to celebrate that Jesus, the guy who dies for us; God's son, was born...

Enough with the 'we' there buddy.

Fuckin hate it...
I do when i reflect on those that are starving and have nothing in our world whilst i spend time with my family, so i give a load of money to various charities after christmas.

This isn't exactly helpful but aren't you really just doing the same thing as Christians just for a different reason (they do it to celebrate Jesus' birthday, you do it to spend time with family)? You're visiting family and having a big family meal on the same day as the Christians.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% see where you're coming from.

So your holiday is better than the Christians holiday?
No, not at all. I think Christians should celebrate Christmas and everyone else who does so should admit that they're hypocrites.

But what I meant was that all the people who celebrate Christmas now, wouldn't just stop celebrating it. It would take generations for people to get out of the tradition.
If these people are Christian then I don't know why you want them to stop celebrating Christmas :D

But who're you fooling? You and I both know the importance of December 24th and 25th is related to Christianity (whether their belief is accurate or not is irrelevant here).

And I'm not even criticizing you for partaking in the celebrations; spending time with your family, showing appreciation, etc etc but you have to admit that by doing so you are being a hypocrite.

Well the reason we celebrate Christmas is because we want to celebrate that Jesus, the guy who dies for us; God's son, was born...
If 'we' means Christians, and if you are a Christian then that's fine. I was just referring to the hardcore atheists on here that attack religion all year long and come Dec 25th they label it non denomination gift giving day and join the celebrations. They're not fooling anyone.

I guess Ze doesnt live in our 'cultures' and doesn't realise how far what happens has nothing to do with christianity, beyond the pity church attendence that the masses feel they have to perform.
