I wasn't talking about you. Just in general. Europe as a whole is moving towards making these types of changes. The French have done it, the Swiss have done it, the Dutch are almost there if not already (I'm not sure), there is a stir in Sweden already and the most racist political party there is gaining a lot of support which is very unusual.

My point was that if there is support and action is/will be taken against such things then I'm sure the people can press for a non-religious holiday.

That won't just make Christmas as it is today go away though. It'd take generations for that to happen.

Ze if the end of Ramadan fell on the 25th of december every year and christmas didnt exist, but i still had a meal with my family and we shared gifts would that make us hypocrites? Because that is essentially what you are saying i am doing by doing that on the same as a the Christmas festival. What i do has NOTHING to do with any religion, i eat a meal and i give presents, just because i live in a 'christian' nation, does not make me a christian or a hypocrite.

Isn't that the point of a National holiday? Either they commemorate something important (or thought to be important) or they are religiously based.

If you want a "non-religious holiday" aside from commemorative holidays, you'll find you get two of them every 5 days.

I do when i reflect on those that are starving and have nothing in our world whilst i spend time with my family, so i give a load of money to various charities after christmas.

This isn't exactly helpful but aren't you really just doing the same thing as Christians just for a different reason (they do it to celebrate Jesus' birthday, you do it to spend time with family)? You're visiting family and having a big family meal on the same day as the Christians.

But who're you fooling? You and I both know the importance of December 24th and 25th is related to Christianity (whether their belief is accurate or not is irrelevant here).

And I'm not even criticizing you for partaking in the celebrations; spending time with your family, showing appreciation, etc etc but you have to admit that by doing so you are being a hypocrite.

If 'we' means Christians, and if you are a Christian then that's fine. I was just referring to the hardcore atheists on here that attack religion all year long and come Dec 25th they label it non denomination gift giving day and join the celebrations. They're not fooling anyone.
