I see a lot of people are getting carried away with Totti cos he scored a lst minute penalty. Lets not forget that before then he almost caused a couple of goals with misplaced passes in his penalty area. I dont think he gels at all with the front 2 players, Gilardino and Toniand they would be my first 2. i think the only problem is the fact that Toni has not scored so he is being way too anxious. The goals might come or they might not but he has played well in most matches. I would still play Dp with them with Totti and Inzaghi being my first point of call for substitutes.
Italy should hope and pray gatusso does not get another yellow as he is essential in the semis if they get there.
Perotta is a must and is totally above criticism, i would not even consider Camoranesi at all
But no no no no no no no Iaquinta as he is a crime

people put him in their starting lines-up because Lippi will definitly do the same.I still think that Ale should play instead of Gila upfront.
Ale(Pippo)-Toni

clearly a sign of underestimating the opponent.
I don't understimate them at all. I rate them objectively after the crap that they are. ;)

And if Perrotta does as good as in AS Roma in that position, Italy may raise their game with a couple of gears in the upcoming games. When shit aint working, you got to try some new stuff and imo this isn't the gamble you want to make it out to be.

DUISBURG – According to the Azzurri medical staff it is unknown whether or not Alessandro Nesta will recover from his adductor injury in time for Friday’s World Cup quarter-final against Ukraine: ‘Nesta is following the schedule set out for his recovery, he is undergoing numerous physical therapy and muscular strengthening sessions. There’s gradual improvement. We want him to recover as soon as possible without taking any risks. It won’t be easy for him to recover in time for the quarter-finals. He will undergo further exams tomorrow and we remain confident

A match that the Azzurri really should win but rest assured the Ukraine will make it as tough as possible for Lippi's men. Will Nesta recover in time or will Barzagli start at centre back? Does DP drop to the bench in favour of Totti or will Lippi play both of them? What about Luca Toni?

Discuss.

I think that DP played a good match. He created some good chances with his pinpoint crosses, and if Rino had made a decient pass in the second half he was unmarked and would have punished the socceroos. I thought Luca played well, just unlucky. But Gilardino should be benched in place of Pippo. Great game again buy the Juve players: Gigi, Fabio, etc. I think Totti has done nothing up to the pk, but a great shot under pressure. Lets hope this gets him out of his funk. forza azzurri.

Nesta highly doubtful for Ukraine match
27 June 2006
by Reuters

Italy's injured central defender Alessandro Nesta is very doubtful for Friday's FIFA World Cup™ quarter-final against Ukraine.
Nesta missed Monday's 1-0 victory over Australia after a troublesome groin injury flared up in the final group match against Czech Republic and team doctor Enrico Castellacci said he was unlikely to be fit to face the Ukrainians in Hamburg.

"It won't be easy," Castellacci told reporters, "He is following our programme and is improving but it is gradual. We said we would try and get him back as quickly as possible but we want to avoid any other problems for the lad," he said.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has limited options in defence given that Nesta's replacement Marco Materazzi is suspended for the quarter-final following his red card against Australia.

Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli, who came on as a substitute against Australia, will almost certainly partner captain Fabio Cannavaro in the centre of defence.

Lippi has no other recognised central defender in his squad.

Castellacci said the Azzurri had no other players in doubt for the game against Ukraine in Hamburg.

im glad barzagli will be replacing nesta and not matreazzi.so him being suspended is good imo.he's been crap everytime he's played for the NT in major competitions.he was asleep when croatia scored against italy at the 2002 finals,he conceded a penalty at the euros, and now he ended up getting a red card.

If we are to qualify to the semis, suspensions are could be our undoing. The refs at this tournament waste no time in reaching out 4 cards. I am worried about Gatt, Zambro and even surprisingly, Grosso. I think all of them have become vital cogs given their involvement upto this stage.

I am in inclined to agree that Toni still deserves to start. I heard the commentator against Australia say his world cup is going horribly and worser by the game but IMO he has posed reasonable threat when he's played (except against USA but everyone was firing blanks) - enough threat for me to beleive he will break his drought at this more critical stage and hopefully beyond

I'm not worried there. It'll be nice to see Zambrotta on the left again, and Oddo should get a chance at the right.

Should be an easy one, hopefully the Shevmeister can spring a few surprises but I won't hold out much hope.
