Welcome, Vincenzo. :pint:
.....................................
............................

This story is 100% correct, but I hope it won't be repeated in Turin.
That's what I'm worried about. Vincenzo can play well but I don't want a repeat of that kind of behaviour.

Iaquinta is probably Trezeguet's replacement.
I hope not! I want Trez to stay!
Lol you make that episode sound like ages ago, it was only a year or two ago.
A bit longer than that, I think!

If Udinese were playing well until they benched him, doesn't that tell you something?
They dropped a few places in total - they survived!

How were they at fault exactly? As I recall Iaquinta wanted out and to play for a bigger club all along. That was the purpose of his actions.
I only remember the commentators going on about it whilst I was watching football (Serie A). The comentators were going on about how Vinny thought he was better than the rest of the team, deserved better, as Andy said he "wanted out" if he didn't get his own way etc. etc.

What came accross was that Vinny was bigheaded, arrogant and thought himself better than his team-mates. Udinese management were "scunnered" with his attitude and felt that he should be taught a lesson and so he was dropped. The commentators were on the management's side by the sound of them and their tone seemed to imply that Vinnie's team-mates were not happy bunnies with Vinnie's attitude either. The atmosphere at Udinese must have been awful.

No he didn't want out, he just refused to extend his contract, which had still a year or so...The way I see it, its up to the player to renew or not, if he didn't then he isn't really guilty of anything. But Udinese benched him, in order to twist his arm to get pen on paper...which is wrong...IMO.

I share Angela's opnion on this. I distinctly remember Iaquinta coming out with arrogant remarks and he really demeaned his club with his actions. Depending on the situation in the locker room at the Friuli, if Iaquinta was causing problems within and hurting team morale, then I think the club holds a right to bench him. Afterall, he's there player.

Having the captain of the club coming out with such arrogance towards Udinese is quite unclassy by the player in question.

And that's wrong? So basically you're saying a player shouldn't want to go to a better club? They were dead wrong to bench him and deprive him of what he rightfully earned: a space in the spotlights.

Bosman was quite a while ago, Andy.
It's not wrong for him to want to move on, but it is wrong for Iaquinta to stir up trouble within the locker room and force his way out during the middle of a season. He wanted a January transfer as I recall and was trying to force his way out, and the board decided to bench him as punishment for his antics... like I said before, the club owns Iaquinta and if he screws things up at the club they reserve the right to punish him. That's the end of the story really.

He could have waited until the season's end instead of trying to force his way out right square in the middle of the proceedings. And the Bosman case is quite different from this one, Seven.

we will pay 11 m in 3 years

acceptable deal

I know the terms of the deal. I'm just telling you that's too much for him. Its great we got him for 3.5 million per year but we could of gotten him for less then that. I guess we need still need a lot of money for this year so we had to take this kind of deal.

There was an internal row, that concerned me, rather than bookings/sendings off, but Udinese had problems with him in the past, and at one point the Udine management deliberately "benched" him and wouldn't let him play. I think at the time, he thought himself more important than the rest of the team and the management finally left him out of the team to teach him a lesson. It was years ago and he was younger - and a tad big headed. It was a shame as Udinese were doing well until he threw his tantrum and got himself dumped. He missed quite a few games before he "learned his lesson", but the management was determined that he was not going to get away with his behaviour. Like I said - I hope he's grown out of it. Yes, he gets booked/sent off like others, but I don't want to see the ructions at Juve like he caused at Udinese.
it was 2 years ago and had nothing to do with him thinking he was more important than the team. it was cuz they were concerned over his contract and wanted him to sign a new deal.

He wanted to go to a bigger club and that is why there was a problem. Now he is at a big club and will probably do all he can to make it here
