Well they traded for the rights to Hamhuis, another good 2 way defenseman. The idea was to try and retain Gonchar and sign Hamhuis. This would have given us a ridiculous group of D-men.

Now I think we'll try to sign Hamhuis and add wingers. We have 17.9 million to work with so odds are something decent will happen. This FA class does suck though.

The free agents this year aren't that good.

We also added Paul Martin from NJ. He was sick until he got injured last season. He can run the power play and is way younger than Gonchar.

more new faces than ever..so from what i read gonch wanted 3 years at us in the new contract, shero kinda refused...

Gonch is 36, at the end of that contract he'd be 39.

Michalek is way better defensively and is a true blu-liner.

Martin can play defense and score points as well.

Letang and Golly are getting better every year.

Plus we have Orpik and some decent guys in the farm system like Lovejoy.
