It was hardly a msterstroke of genius to deploy a team with a midfield capable of passing the ball, and to see that we can actually pass the ball.
Poulsen is capable of assuming the anchor man role, sitting in front of the defence, winning the ball, hassling the opponents, playing short, simple passes. A competent fulcrum, similar in some ways to deschamps. Melo's problem with that role is that he has too much flamboyance. Poulsen has little desire to showboat...So the Dane is a safer bet, in THAT particular role.
With failing wingers, unable to beat players consistently, nor support the fullbacks competently, the emphasis is on the central midfield area to produce flow to the offensive players. And also for the central midfield options to be able to maintain possession, to allow the defence to simply defend and know that nearby are players they can find easily, who will do what midfielders are supposed to do...keep the ball, play the ball, create with the ball.
Marchisio and Poulsen can both tackle, and they can both pass. Much more competently and consistently than Momo and Melo.
Nothing new learned here. As I think this has been clear for the whole season, for most juve supporters...Dogs of war with weak, failing wingers, adds huge pressure to the defence and cuts short the supply to our attack...
