any coincidence that this was one of our better performances, and neither Momo or Melo played ???
Nope. Simply the midfield players knew how to pass the ball around.
We played against a not so good team that is completely out of form right now. In addition to this today we were playing for nothing. Mathematically we had still chances for 4th sport, but practically, we lost the spot in the game against Inter...

It was hardly a msterstroke of genius to deploy a team with a midfield capable of passing the ball, and to see that we can actually pass the ball.

Poulsen is capable of assuming the anchor man role, sitting in front of the defence, winning the ball, hassling the opponents, playing short, simple passes. A competent fulcrum, similar in some ways to deschamps. Melo's problem with that role is that he has too much flamboyance. Poulsen has little desire to showboat...So the Dane is a safer bet, in THAT particular role.

With failing wingers, unable to beat players consistently, nor support the fullbacks competently, the emphasis is on the central midfield area to produce flow to the offensive players. And also for the central midfield options to be able to maintain possession, to allow the defence to simply defend and know that nearby are players they can find easily, who will do what midfielders are supposed to do...keep the ball, play the ball, create with the ball.

Marchisio and Poulsen can both tackle, and they can both pass. Much more competently and consistently than Momo and Melo.

Nothing new learned here. As I think this has been clear for the whole season, for most juve supporters...Dogs of war with weak, failing wingers, adds huge pressure to the defence and cuts short the supply to our attack...

perfect post!!

Poulsen is jack of all trades and master of nothing which is what we need. Does the hard work and knows his limitations.

Marchisio - Poulsen = balance
Melo - Sissoko = unbalance

melo and sissoko should not be deployed together
FIXED..

No matter how many midfielders are ahead of of them, we will still concede. Melo and Sissoko have proven game in game out that they are very poor passers (especially sissoko).
Honestly speaking, if this was Juve of pre 2006 I would have said SELL BOTH of them as they are not Juve material. We never ever had any player (let alone in a midfield role) with such a poor passing accuracy rate.. We had alot of tactical non-creative players but they were all above average passers to say the least.

Deschamps, Conte, Tacchinardi, Davids, Emerson, Vieira and even Blasi and Nocerino were/are better passers.

Sissoko might be a beast in the midfield but whats the point of a player with such stamina and character who cannot deliver the ball to the player next to him after intercepting it. He pass it immediately to the opponent which causes a very dangerous counter attack.

Unfortunately, we might not have the luxury of selling both players and getting replacement, but we should definitely off load one of them.

A fairly comfortable win & a clean sheet. Who would have thought it?
Bari didn't exactly complicate things for us though & the game was played at an incredibly leisurely pace. Felt like one of those end of season games where nothing can be gained or lost. Odd.
Strange formation we deployed as well, at least at times.

Anyway, our ticket to Europe for next season is all but in the bag now. It's not the CL but heck, right now I'll take what I can get.

Buffon 6 - Took a while before he was really tested. By our own defense no less.
Zebina 6 - Mostly ok, but a few minor mistakes. Almost 1 major mistake.
Cannavaro 6 - Comfortable game. Rarely troubled.
Chiellini 6,5 - Pretty easy game, his presence was always felt.
De Ceglie 6 - Surprisingly competent outing. Some nice interventions.
Camoranesi 5,5 - A few flashes of brilliance, not enough. Plus, looks like he's getting dumber with each passing week.
Poulsen 6 - Decent game, nothing spectacular.
Marchisio 7 - Best midfielder, as usual.
Diego 6 - Absolutely vital yesterday. But still a shitload of bad decision making & usually annoyingly slow in playing the ball.
Del Piero 5 - Pretty poor game.
Amauri 4 - Really poor game.

Candreva 6 - Slight upgrade over Camo. Brilliant play for the assist.
Iaquinta 6,5 - Yesterday he was a massive upgrade over Amauri. Severe lack of intelligence though.
Salihamidzic -

When will you learn that Melo is not a player you anchor infront of defense? When he plays well he runs box to box and is a perfectly capable passer and winner of the ball.

Hope you are not a teacher because youre students would be killed. Iaquinta scores twice in 45 minutes play and only gets 6.5, Diego, Chiellini, Buffon and Poulsen should be higer as well.

This was a deserved victory, we were superior for once and we have a won!
But make no mistake, its not like we were stellar, it was because Bari was too incompetent and could not take advantage of our pathetic defense...
This team could have easily lose points or the game, if the opposition were more competent and Buffon trusted Zebi a bit more, just like they did so many times before...
Its really unfortunate though, that Samp and Palermo managed to beat Roma and Milan and seal the last CL position. I was hoping at least one of them would slip some points at the most difficult match of the remainder and maybe a draw in the game between them, but kudos to them for the performances and their deserved spot above us!
Our players ought to believe that we still have a chance and try until the last minute, but dont be delusional, we have lost the CL and we did not deserve it!
We are not at any case a CL material team and it highly unlikely we will become with this management.
So let us focus in the domestic titles again and build smth more concrete...
Hopefully this time we will get some proper defenders and wont waste any more money on midfielders and overpriced forwards.
