Celtic.

Really good stuff from Aberdeen lat night.

Vernon on for Zola in the first half.

Aberdeen played with an intensity and aggression that Falkirk couldn't live with, so when you then add in our players' superior talent, it's little wonder we thrashed them.

Falkirk seem to be a team who have let it go to their head that they are considered a good passing team, so seem to have decided that means they don't have to work hard or compete physically. Just looked a soft touch.

Really chuffed for Vernon after the tough 18 months on so he's had.

Fuck knows how to fit guys like Flood, Robson and McGinn back into this team when they are back from injury.

There was a period of about twenty minutes in the second half where seven of the Aberdeen team had come through the youth system, with six having started the game.

Scottish League Cup, quarter-final draw:

Inverness v Dundee Utd

Morton v St Johnstone

Hibernian v Hearts

Motherwell v Aberdeen

Ties to be played on 29/30 October.

Just about as hard a draw as we could've got, but we've done reasonably well down there in the last couple of years.

And we're favourites for the League Cup now. :scared:

Exactly! As long as Rangers and Celtic are in anything, no-one else has a chance. It will be great to see someone else win it this year.

Well, I'd be pretty confident Morton won't win it, but no-one else could be considered a suprise winner from here really.

Aberdeen, the arabs, hibs, jam tarts.... anyone could win it. That's the good thing for football in Scotland.

I doubt morton will. It will probably be a Premier league team...

But the bigot brothers won't. :D

We're on a good run of form (three wins in a row, five clean sheets in a row) and St Mirren are in a horrible run of form and have been since the back end of last season.

General view is that their coach will probably be sacked if they lose tonight.

Good chance we'll win.

Don't know if the odds are good enough to make it worth betting on, though.

Stupid team selection and stupid tactics meant the first half was wasted.

If you want to play Vernon, play him up as a striker.

If you want to play long, play long all the time so that you can get support up for the loose balls - don't do it occasionally so that no-one has a real chance to get in position.

Still had enough chances to win the game in the last few minutes once there was a sensible team on the pitch.

Vernon playing wide was doubly problematic between St Mirren were so intent on sitting deep and narrow that Aberdeen couldn't possibly play through the middle as much as they had done (very well) in recent game. Trying to play down the wings with an immobile centre forward on one of them is not likely to yield positive results.

Generally a really bad game from McInnes. Can only hope he does not make the same mistakes again.

Ah, always enjoyable giving those cunts a beating, especially when they've been as full of themselves as they were in the build-up to this game. Few clubs overestimate their own importance quite as much as Dundee Utd do.

Okay performance overall.

First half was fairly nothingy. Aberdeen had the ball but rarely looked like doing anything with it, but the possession was pretty safe and Utd didn't look capable of doing anything from open play.

The wet conditions meant it was virtually impossible to catch a ball played over the defence, so both teams were happy to play a pretty high line, which made it very tough to find space in midfield.

Aberdeen struggled to play forward because McGinn and Pawlett were playing too high up, so the deeper players rarely had the chance to find them. Going long to Zola - the other option for Aberdeen to work the ball forward - wasn't an option because he was being shit.

Second half was better because McGinn and Pawlett started to move better. Also, Utd's defence inexplicably dropped deeper, which created the space in midfield that Aberdeen needed to play.

Aberdeen - mainly through Robson - did a pretty good job of killing the game with possession after getting the lead. Utd never really managed to build a sustained period of pressure.

Only defensive issues were failing to win as many first headers at set-pieces as the should and the odd occasion where an opponent was allowed to run when the foul should have been made.

Still don't see how to make a balanced team with Zola and McGinn in it. They don't move well off the ball and they prevent the team from pressing - Zola due to being too slow and McGinn due to being too lazy. That means you are going to have to focus on dropping off and holding shape, which pushes you towards being counter-attacking team, but Zola is of little to no use in a counter-attack.

Ridiculously good performance after going down to ten men so early in the game.

Went to 3-5-1 after the red card:

Langfield

Anderson-Considine-Reynolds

Pawlett-----------------------Hayes
Flood---Jack
McGinn-----------------

Vernon

Had little option but to allow Motherwell to get crosses in, so was a necessity to get the extra centre half on.

Motherwell were awful and ran out of ideas about half way through the second half. At that point they started to over-commit and we were able to break out more frequently.

Win wasn't a fluke either. For all the possession Motherwell had, we created more dangerous situations than them and ended up with more shots on target.

Glorious performance from Russell Anderson. Shows what the folk who think he's past it know.

Never seen Aberdeen manage to do anything comparable to that and it's a long time since I felt that proud of a Dons performance.

Sensational away support down as well. Officially was 2,635, but looked like more than that:
