compered to our competitors we had the best mercato. we have alot more pace in our team, something a have missed for years. That, along with individuals like elia and vucinic, which can dribble players and get past the opponent, will make a huge difference against the small teams.
i rated our mercato 8. we could have gotten a better DC and DL, but at the same time a have some hope left for bonucci. hopefully we will get off to a good start and score many goal, so we can afford not having the best def. in the world.
elia on the left will be great. lichtsteiner is a great upgrade, and vidal and pirlo i have high hopes for.

Failure to shift the majority of the deadwood off
5/10, for a variety of reasons:
- I'm indifferent to most of our signings until I see how Contes fields them tactically and how they adapt. Pre-season is not enough to go by. Even when I believed we would sign top players, I still had that Ciro aftertaste, as even a squad with big names will struggle if their coach is not up to the job.
- Marotta screwed himself over last summer by making those loan options obligations rather than actual options we could refuse to exercise. Had the later been the case, the money spent on Pepe and Motta this summer could have gone towards buying a defender.
- Marotta's assurances of quality over quantity were a lie, but the bigger problem is, in hindsight, had we used that philosophy over the past 2 summers, we would be better off right now.
- Elia, Estigarribia and Giaccherini are all question marks. Next to rb, LM was a top priority, and we should have gone for someone more proven like Vargas or Bastos.
- Disappointed in our ability to sell players, but unlike the rest of you, I don't blame Marotta. It's not as if we set high prices on any of our players. The simple fact of the matter is no1 wanted them, or the teams who did were unattractive options to the player (thank Secco for that). Trimming a squad of it's excess is not the same as selling it's key players, where you can dictate terms.

Vucinic has the potential to put some balls in the net....he's proven he can score in Serie A. I fear he ends up with the same virus other strikers get when they play here, its called "lackofgoalsitis"

The issue and what scares me is that our problems lied in the defense last season. We didn't have too much problems offensively but our problems in defense were pathetic. So obviously you'd think a big part of this mercato should go towards defense but all we did was bring Licht. I'm honestly scared that the same problems will repeat themselves this season.
Still, he was twice the player Motta/Grygera were. Chiellini and Buffon both made some questionable decisions last year. The whole team made questionable decisions last year.
The kid is a year older and HOLY SHIT we didn't loan him out...that alone should tell you something. Sure he is a natural CB but to play out of position in a sinking ship for a clube like Juve as an 18 year old that nobody ever heard of before?...hell, Vin I think this kid deserves a second go...He could only get better and he sure as hell can't get as bad as Motta.

I rate this mercato 2 now. Our defense was a joke, Marotta improved both fullbacks to make it less of a joke. Than he failed to improve our sad sad CBs. I would be ok with that, but than he and maestro Cunte decided that our fullbacks need to be a bit worse.
We will suffer greatly this year, because of our defense.

I gave a 7 to our mercato just because we could have sign some of those players that would improve our team:
Pjanic – 11M
Gago – Loan
Zarate – Loan
Forlan – 5M
Kjaer – Loan
Mertesacker – 10M
Andre Santos – 7M
Cassani – 2M
Gervinho – 12M
Martin Cáceres – 3M
But overall i think that Marotta did a decent job. However i think that we will finish 4th because a midfield with Pjanic-De Rossi-Gago will beat us...
