Its not even about scoring, it's about being a menace (Tevez was a menace too), a real weapon that opponents worry about.
All Dybala's (elite) opponents have to worry about is not letting him shoot with his left from the right. I'm sorry but that's simply not enough for us.

Contract renewal happening or could lose on a free. Seems to be having a chronic knee issue which could get worse. Is inconsistent when he is healthy. Hard to figure out how he fits in the formation. Tempermental.

Alternative interpretations are excuses, dude. As is blaming Allegri. We were on pace for 100+ pts in the league most of that year, and went out in CL QFs. It was a bad season, certainly, but Dybala was far and away the worst under-performer in the entire team, even more so given how much of a superstar you think he is. He’s been in his prime these past 3 years so there’s really no excuse for being so awful for two of them

For years now he's missing a month or two every season due to injuries, that's only going to get worse with age, I'd definitely say he's injury prone even before this season. And it's simple, if we keep Ronaldo, Dybala will continue to be that square peg in a round hole, you can only play them together if you sacrifice another area, Allegri and Sarri couldn't figure it out, Pirlo isn't even trying to and requested a CF straight-away, the next coach probably won't be able to do it either.

I've never been able to put into words what I feel Dybala seems to lack as a forward but you kinda said it. If you're the adversary and you see the ball being passed to someone like Mbappe or Neymar you know shit is coming your way.

There's an aggressiveness, an unpredictability and constant danger you get from those sort of players. All the great forwards were like that.

Dybala does have his own bag of tricks but I'd say his strongest feat is positioning himself just outside the box on the right side, cutting to the left and getting that ball to the far left of the keeper. Similar to Robben in a way. He's scored a lot of goals that way which is absolutely fine.

But there's something that's just not there, maybe that constant danger feeling you get from other players. The menace as you said. Maybe there was another step up he was supposed to take on his football journey but he just never did.

I believe the potential was always there, you could see it from his Palermo days. I even thought he had similarities with Romário then. Maybe his story would've been different if he had picked a club that would use him to his strengths, maybe that's the problem. We didn't.

Agreed but those players were the first to come to mind, I could've mentioned less trickery non-winger type forwards like Batistuta or even Cavani. There was that extra menacing element when those guys touched the ball and they were not necessarily that technical.

Also, I don't think it's just a matter of lack of speed. Speed helps but it's maintaining a great ball control while doing his little bursts forward i don't think he is really great at that, at least not at longer distances. Reason why from day one I wanted us to build a team around him as a #9. Period. Stay as close to the goal as possible, take one or two touches and shoot. That's his habitat.

.Of course that would require a midfield that can create and be that connection or the guy would never even see the ball. So we can't provide him with what he needs and he can't perform to his full potential in the way we play. What's the damn point?
