anyone notice how much better he is at tracking back and positioning this season compared to last 2?

that was his biggest weakness as a cm. often he would position himself poorly to receive the ball, and defensively he would not close down men or channels fast enough. But he does that very well now

Not lamer than the overrating around these parts though. There are people saying he'll surely become one of the best of all time. Get out of here.
Lol don't invent stuff to reinforce your arguments.

It's insane to think that yes, he is one of the best in the world; but no, he's not world class, because the world level is shitty. What kind of thinking is that?

Anywya, there are plenty of great midfielders around these days. It even isn't the case of the world having a low bar.

World class is a relative term

It simply means you are top5 in the world on your position. It does not matter what the global level is.

Today, Barzagli is a world class defender. 25 years ago Baresi was a world class defender.

Barzagli cant even tie his boots, but both are world class cause the term is relative

Barzagli can't be compared with Baresi I guess (I haven't seen the latter play) but he has been almost flawless for us, I don't think it's far-fetched to say that he's one of the best defenders in Juve's history.

I suppose Sergio Ramos, by many peasants considered world class so i suppose we can call him that, would be a better example

Barzagli is criminally underrated. When i tought "world class", he's about the only defender along with tiago silva that came into mind

Baresi was a defensive GOD.

Apparently, Gaetano Scirea was even better. So good that he kept a young Baresi out of the 1982 starting lineup, (86 as well I think?).

Now Italy has the likes of Ranocchia, Bonucci, Ogbonna and Astori. A sad decline.

Pogba will be the best player in the world, he has everything in his game.

Still cant believe we got this guy when we did. He must remind the Juve ultras of Zidane and some of the other greats we had when watching him.

Chiellini and Barzagli - the last two real defenders in Italy. lets see what this new generation of Rugani and co. has to offer

Previous generations of players can't be compared to current generation players. Not ever.
The game constantly changes and one can argue back and forth wether it's improving or deceasing in quality. My personal opinion to this is that along with almost everything else in this world, we are getting better and better at whatever we do. And so, football is getting harder and harder to master, because, everyone in it; managers, players etc, are also getting better. Todays defenders will take on strikers (generally) better then ever before and vice versa. Maradona (or Baresi as referred here) dominated at their time, yet the opponents weren't the opponents of today.

Italian football is not getting worse then it has ever been - football out of Italy is just improving (mainly player abliities and manager tactics.)

The best teams during the prime 80-90s would not be as good as the best team as of recent time. Around here, you guys will never agree to this view but that could stem from the fact that many of you started following Juve when they were at the very top of the world. Messi just broke an 80 year old record - yeah right but back when the old record was set there was no such thing as mercurial boots, hybrid footballs or plain grass fields.

You mean if he would have become the Serie A all time top scorer? Personally im not a big fan of Messi, as im not sure of how good he'd be in any other team. Inarguably he's world class but he'd never win Ballon D'or had he played for Manchester United for instance. Meaning Ronaldo is superior.

But let me put the discussion this way; Pogba is the first player to score 5 goals for Juve whilst under the age of 20 - since Del Piero. That could be because we don't ever play youngsters or because none hasn't had the talent Pogba has. But dont forget Paul is a CM - ADP was a striker. Paul Pogba is truly unique - one in a generation player and I agree with Raiola he's the most expensive player in the world. Raiola on Pogba
