What was necessary? The legitimacy of Kosovo as being independent is a complex issue and one where arguments from both sides can be valid. Tell me, if the NATO bombing of civilian targets in Serbia was legitimate, why aren't they bombing the administration in Pristina right now? As far I know from family members who live there and friends, several are getting killed, medicine supplies are low, regular beatings and attacks by what is now the majority. That is to exclude the Serbian media because they probably are biased, so I won't even begin to dig down into their reports. The Albanians in Kosovo have assumed the shape of the wolf that the Serbs had prior to that. Why didn't the KFOR soldiers shoot back in 2004 and the ethnic atrocities being committed? If you have standards they should be applied universally.

When the whole world decides that drastic a measure needs to be taken, there's gotta be some truth to it. Kosovars were getting their houses burned down, were being killed, and thrown out of their own place. It had to be stopped.

How does Prishtina figure into this? I don't see anything nearly as bad happening there.

What I tried to say with the post above is that the key to solving the Balkan problems is accepting that no one is purely innocent and no one is purely wrong, in any scenario. If we could all accept that none of us have a perfect history, we could actually work towards making the place better, but no. Serbs remember what happened in WW1, the albanians remember what happened after WW1, the serbs remember what happened in 1941, the albanians remember what happened in the late 40's early 50's . A never ending cycle of retaliation, and it's just idiotic.

The whole world? The NATO bombing did not have UN sanction, so that argument can be excluded. And again, instead of discussing specifics (we can all call upon atrocities committed by the other side) I'd like to repeat my point that no one is innocent. Serb houses, too were being burned. Children killed and women raped. And what good did it do anyone? Oh and how Pristina figures into it can be exemplified by 2004 and the events there. Furthermore the oppression in the mid-late 80's that led to OVK rebellion looks a whole lot like the albanian oppression of Serbs today.

We Balkans sure do love our oppressing.

The Iraq was is a little different. There was no initial need to go there, I can't disagree with that. But hey, the soldiers have about as much choice about ending up there as the Iraqis do. What is the difference? The suicide bomber taking out a hotel with american soldiers on leave or the F16 fighter shelling a building complex because of insurgents hiding inside it?
