It's the latter. My point is that there's a general bias towards Italians football players which influences FIFA decisions.
I doubt that. I haven't found that bias in any country I've lived (the Netherlands and England). Are there some stereotypes? Sure. Are they all negative? No. Is there a general form of negative bias towards Italy? Not that I found.

Maybe it's different in, say, Spain or some place. I wouldn't know.

My previous post wasn't directly aimed at you, more at most Italians I've come across in my life. Most of them were convinced the rest of Europe hates them, which I have never found any evidence of.

Give me a Buffon, side order of Zambrotta and a loan of Cannavaro to go please oh and throw in some fries with that :D

ok its really not funny :pint: no fries

Haha, you should have ordered the fries. Now you might starve :D :D

Bottom line: Juventus does not sell its stars to clubs that try to fix matches. Once Milan stops cheating and serves it's proper punishment, we will talk with Milan about transfers. :D

No, he wouldn't. Zidane is getting special treatment, both at home and in Zurich.

But tell me this, could Montero get away with the hand of god? Would the public opinion accept it like they accept Maradona?

A good point. But I do remember that, in 1991, Diego Maradonna was crucified in the English-language press for being a "drug addict that needs to disappear into some dark back alley and overdose on something so that we don't have to think about him anymore". While, in the exact same issue of the same publications it was written that we must pity our beloved George Best, who had destroyed his liver and his health with an alochol addiction. That we should all line up and donate our livers to this fallen icon of sport.

Unequal treatment for similar maladies. The reason? I always suspected it was that one was Argentine and the other British. You cannot say that it was because of stature as a footballer, because they were two of the greatest ever.

All this fuss over something that is inconsequential and in the past. Who cares...let Zidane retire in peace. Italy lifted the trophy anyway; don't you think that's painful enough?

It's not about Zidane. It's about Matarazzi and it's about the precedent that FIFA is setting. Trash talk is a huge part of every game. Getting into an opponent's head to gain an advantage is a common practice. Now, are we going to see lenghty bans for every player who taunts, provokes, jokes, or is accussed of this sort of behavior? If so, one referee won't be able to handle it. We will need an army. Stupid FIFA.

Agreed. My first reaction when I saw that, I was like "huh?!" :wth:

I leave no question that I think Materazzi defines the word "douche bag" and he should be eradicated from the sport. That said, for him to serve a two-day suspension for "verbal provocation" in unprecedented from what I understand. (Though I would prefer to use the term, "utter billsh*t".)

Zidane has his dick up FIFA's ass so deep that they are inventing rules to enforce in his favor -- as a gesture as if to justify his unjustifiable behavior.

And that's the way I see it, folks.
