guess who said this in his inaugural speech:

"I have no purpose directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so...."
"I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is physical difference between the two which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position"

- Hey Abe, you were kind of wrong.

To be fair to Lincoln, you can't really know what he thought. I know it's what he said, but those were different times. Even if his initial plan was to abolish slavery (which I doubt it was, I'll give you that), he could hardly come out and say it.

@swag @Enron ,

Have you guys been following the debate about taking down the confederate flag after the SC Shooting? The people defending the flag claim it has nothing to do with racism, rather, its supporting the people that fought to defend it. Maybe I'm missing something in my history lessons here but wasn't the flag flown during the times when slavery was prominent and those who fought to defend it were in fact trying to keep slavery alive? So, that leads me to my next question: How then isn't this about racsim if the flag was flown by those trying to keep it alive?

Yeah, I´ve always found it wrong to fly the Confederate Flag over government buildings. You since it represents treason and the death of the nation.

you did, civil war had little to do with slavery, just as the iraq war had little to do with weapons of mass destruction
True, but we're talking about a flag. Which represents different things to different people.

Let´s just blame Andrew Jackson.

Flags don't kill people, Kinder Eggs kill people

Yea, Lincoln was as much an abolitionist as Gandhi was against the caste system. Even silly Europeons know that
The true abolitionist was Mr. John Brown.

Not sure what you can do with that shirt, but I have several ideas on what you can do with this -rep I'm going to give you just based on the fact that you admitted to having a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt.

the confederacy wanted to secede from the union because the federal govt was unconstitutionally infringing on state rights, lincoln had no problems letting southern states continue haivng slaves if it meant theyd accept said infringement.
Right on. But hey, the "Liberals" love Abe and compare him to Obongo while at the same time hating "slave owners" like Thomas Jefferson. :seven:

That is true. I actually live in the same neighborhood as his death site and memorial.
