LMAO. So Meta basically turned Facebook from "connecting with friends" into "doom-scrolling random content" and now claims that's what users wanted? Let's not pretend this wasn't something driven by Facebook/Meta to satisfy Wall Street. Social media did not naturally evolve into what it is today: engagement bait, consumption of content creator and advertiser content, etc. This resulted from purposeful business strategic decisions to pivot from a place to learn who is fucking who to a place where advertisers and monetization rule.

Facebook never became what users wanted. It's what Zuck wanted. And that is power and money.

Which is why he cucked out overnight after visiting Mar-a-Lago.

This fuck was beginning to be somewhat almost likable last year when compared to Musk, but he can't help himself.

His $3 million makeover didn't fool me for a second.

personality rarely changes at that age when these people realistically become wealthy. self-importance is already noticeable in kindergartens. my son (10) has classmates who already lack empathy and have personality traits that i - a non-psychologist - would easily describe as narcissistic and remind me of adult sociopaths i crossed paths with.

Yeah I agree with that to an extent. People have different personalities. Autism is to blame for some of this as well, whether you believe that's a cause or a diagnosis. I feel like I'm there somewhere as well, but I don't completely lack empathy. I always think that if I was to become super wealthy (it's not going to happen and that's fine) I'd be concerned how it could potentially change me as a person. You have people kissing your ass all day long. You can circumvent many laws or social norms with your wealth, there is a degree of being untouchable. With the wrong person it can create a bit of a monster.

A friend of my wife's best friend told me an odd story that happened about 8 years ago. He's your basic briefcase businessman who lives in rural Ireland and pretty much gets along with everybody.

He had a chance meeting with Zuck at a private event in Ireland. Facebook had their global HQ in Ireland back then, and Zuck would come out once every several months. The guy had no clue who Zuck was -- he thought he was just some bloke. Which didn't exactly rise a "Don't you know who I am??" from Zuck as much as a, "Hmmm, he seems safe and doesn't know who I am". He showed Zuck to a nearby local pub of his and they chatted a bit more.

So Zuck asked if he could call him the next time he flies into town to find out about similar small social gatherings. He said sure, so they exchanged phone numbers. But on Zuck's condition of, "But just so we're clear -- this does not mean we are friends." So the guy is like, ok weird, but whatever.

Zuck would call him on future visits. But he took a massive risk in sharing his phone number with some rando in Ireland. To me it kind of suggests how Zuck has a moat built around him in life and in his head, but it gets lonely in there.

It's an interesting if very broad array of topics. Personally, I'd say the majority of these things are either natural or cerebral phenomena, or made by con artists. These days it's even more popular to believe in the unlikely, you can go down rabbit holes for days on end on YouTube, social media, podcasts, etc that are set up to generate views, interest and money.

I only intermittently watch women's football, like bits of matches maybe 2 years apart. Compared to 10 or even 5 years ago you can see a big improvement in the level, but some things remain a bit amateurish.

someone mocked lehmann the other day when the swiss women's team apparently lost to some u15 boys' team by a big margin. that's probably representative to their level. equal pay my ass. i get that serena williams was very popular, so was sharapova, steffi graf and some female tennis players here and there, but that's the exception. usually women's sports are simply not that entertaining to watch, hence the lower commercial revenue, and the consequent lower prize money. it makes complete sense. if you're that popular then milk the sponsors ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It shouldn't really be compared to men's football at all.

There have been massive improvements though and I think at this point people should stop mocking the sport.

As little as 5 years ago I think we were right to laugh. They were not just bad, they were pretty much untrained. When you compared them to female athletes in track and field, but also in team sports like field hockey, it was obvious they were nowhere near that level. Today however they are getting there. Does it excite me as much as the men's game? No, not at all. Unfortunately women's sports never excite me as much, because they're weaker and slower. But as long as they put the effort in, they deserve basic respect.
