Chievo boss Luigi Del Neri has admitted that he would take the Italy job if it was offered to him.
The tactician has been linked with the post should the Italian Football Federation decide to replace Giovanni Trapattoni.
"It is an honour to hear my name as a possible candidate for the Azzurri job. It is a reflection on me and the work which I have carried out at Chievo," he told ‘Radio Anch'io Sport’ on Monday.
"But for the time being I need to simply concentrate on my club. However, it is obvious that it would be impossible to turn down such an offer if it arrived."
Del Neri has been heavily praised once more this weekend after he led his side to a 3-2 defeat of Milan – their first loss of the season.
"We did have a few difficulties at the start of the campaign and that was to be expected," added the boss.
"But the team is slowly finding its feet even if we are still not delivering the spectacular football that we showed last term.
"I don’t know if we can repeat the kind of performance which we showed against Milan. I’m just asking my players to keep working hard and to not keep comparing themselves with last year’s side."
Although Milan were convincingly beaten, Del Neri did claim that the Rossoneri would still have their say in the Scudetto race.
"Milan are definitely an above average side and played well against us despite losing. Today there is no such thing as an unbeatable side in football," he continued.
"They suffered against our velocity which was possibly down to the fact that they were somewhat tired after all their European commitments. They are and remain a great side."
