Not only is education here almost free, it is also very good. Among the best in the world.

In terms of healthcare any system has room for improvement. But I pay 77 euros a year and almost all my expenses are covered. When a surgery costs 4k, the state pays 3800. And for the extra 200 I have another very cheap optional insurance. And Belgium ranks quite high when it comes to quality as well.

No, I will pay a lot of taxes in my life. Probably more than most. But that's just fine.

about Zach bringing up financing and investments in recreation and sporting activities... Those are exactly the sort of things that get cut out of Republican budgets to allow their tax cuts while simultaneously increasing military and police spending.

Social services, community groups, community sports, the arts, public education, etc... These things all get the axe under conservative governments. Such irony to hear you of all people talking about the benefit of them.

Honestly I think Zach has never been to the US and it shows.

Obviously a few months there does not make me as knowledgeable as an American, but it does give you a far better idea about what conservative means in the US. Damn, I had to pay that just to get an ingrown toenail removed WITH insurance, I pay a little less than that per paycheck for the insurance too.

Of course there is still room for improvement. Breast implants after amputation for breast cancer are considered purely aesthetical for example. And the rule is they don't pay for aesthetic surgeries. I can understand the reasoning, but still. Sometimes the system can be cold.

It's always been my idea that as a society we should strive to free and good healthcare. As a human being, you deserve to be in good health.
