You all are massively underestimating the benefits to a functioning society the welfare state produces.

Even if you personally maybe would have achieved the same level of education, it'll be a huge problem for you if most of the other people in your country have gotten abysmal education. Social benefits, even if yes, of course they get abused sometimes, keep a ton of people afloat during times of difficulty instead of dropping out of the system completely.

The secondary effects of a functioning welfare system really are enormously underappreciated and underrepresented in the debate, they are massively improving any society for everyone living in it. Even if I'm richest guy in the world I'm gonna profit from all the benefits, whether it's healthcare, education or money, given to the poorest - unless I wanna live in an artificial gated community.

I'm not really underestimating any of that :).

True, some others here neither probably :D

Just thought those issues weren't brought up enough and deserved some attention.

Never would've thought that something like those bans would be possible just two years ago or so.

There's so much wrong with that, fundamentally and rationally.

I read that an Iranian dude, who has worked for The US Government in Iran, is stuck at an airport cause he can't enter The US

Edit: He's from Iraq and he's being held back in Bew York.
Stufd like this is going to backfire on Trump. And hard. Because everyone knows someone with such issues. Not to mention that his wife wasn't even born in the states and barely speaks Soviet English, so he's a hypocrite too.

Like everything else. The US economy is not that free and they'll become even more protectionistic with Trump. It dosen't look good. Even "socialist" Denmark has a more free economy than The US.

Edit: I mixed it up with free trading. We're five places below The US, when it comes to free economy.

Friday’s executive order, signed at the Pentagon, suspends the issuing of U.S. visas or travel permits to people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Not a single American was killed on U.S. soil by citizens from any of those countries between 1975 and 2015, according to statistics tallied by the conservative-leaning Cato Institute.

However, the same set of statistics show that nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by citizens from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Turkey in the same time period — with the bulk of those killed being victims of the 9/11 attacks. Yet, people from those four countries are still welcome to apply for U.S. visas and travel permits.

In a striking parallel, Trump’s sprawling business empire — which he has refused to rescind ownership of — holds multi-million dollar licensing and development deals in all of those countries, raising potential conflict of interest concerns and alarming questions over what actually went into the decision process behind Friday’s executive order.
Yeah. No conflict of interest there with Trump's business empire. Not at all.

Disgusting.

He's started off really poor imo. Made himself look like an idiot with the whole attendance thing, then there was the 20% tax on imported goods from Mexico (and wtf it almost seems as if it was only after criticism that he realised Americans pay that 20%), and now there's the immigration thing which is pretty much racist and probably illegal too.

And this is week 1.

You'd have to be a real piece of work to rationalize and/or defend this muslim immigration ban. Even more so, now that it is very clearly linked more so to his business interests than to actual precedent in terms of danger from terror attacks.

Yeah. It looks like it wasn't just all retarded rethorics. I can't even imagine how full retard he would have went, if he lost the election.

If it is the guy I'm thinking about he was a US Army translator during the Iraq war and the military has been trying to get him and his family to safety for a long time.
