what the hell do you call this? total B movie packed with B actors despite Colin Farrel being in it
I thought they were kidding around when they said your taste is rather consistently bad, and its a good sign if you dont like a movie, thought they were just jesting...until this post.

I understand different taste, or not thinking its great, but thinking its terrible? Seriously? I dont use awards for much, but it was a quite widely praised all over the world in festivals, bit darkish comedy drama, really bit morbid.

And the actors, Gleeson is a great supporting actor, and Ralph Fiennes is one of THE biggiest thespians around who define acting, B actors

Martin :andy2:

Even if I ignore you calling it a B movie [:D], I would never agree with you on the acting part because both Collin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson were indeed great. Ralph Fiennes didn't have much to do for Harry's role but he also was decent. Oh and the screenplay was one of the bests of the year with no doubt.

wrestler, I think that's a Hoori favorite. I'll have to be careful what I think of it :D
So far, I've told everyone this: "Watch Wrestler. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot". But I'm not gonna recommend you this one :D

Aronofsky is my favorite director so I might be a bit biased about this movie but Wrestler deserved all the awards for which it could be nominated (best actor, best supporting actress, best movie, best original song and best director :p)

Well, perhaps you can help me by naming some of your favorite movies, please :p

no and yes. Don't remember him from there though.
Watch English Patient Martin. One of those movies which is mostly dependant on its superb acting IMO.

Oh my god, I don't fit in with the pretentious crowd, what on earth am I gonna do

Spare me the drama, Osmanito. If it's a comedy it falls flat on its face as far as I'm concerned. If it's not the story is pretty inane and void of substance. And it's not the first or the last movie to be overhyped beyond its merits.

But it must be reassuring in the end to dismiss a difference of opinion as bad taste and lack of sophistication. By all means do not let me for a minute cause you to waver in your conviction that you belong to the inner circle. :weee:

Ralph Fiennes amazing acting is very prevalent in his very long list of fine movies. Really dramatic and exemplary actor. He IMO played the best villain there is in Schindlers list.

You're right. Pick A Clockwork Orange for example. They were many critics out there who didn't approve the movie but you'll probably get slaughtered if you claim here that you didn't like the movie. Liking/disliking a movie is actually a matter of taste but then again some things are not. You might dislike The Lord of the Rings but you can't deny that its visual effects or make up were out of this world. You just can't. Acting is one of those things as well. You might get bored while watching Dog Day Afternoon but you can't ignore Pacino's magnificent performance there.

I like Farrel but I thought he was basically okay in this one, didn't grab my attention very much. Gleeson the same while Fiennes was annoying.

Love to help you out, but I don't keep a list (used to once). I have some scattered notes that indicate these are some titles I liked in the not so distant past. If you want the why I have it written up for these.

Taken
Robocop
The Recruit
Office Space :star:
Batman Begins
Da Vinci Code
Equilibrium
Amores perros
Citizen X
Hotel Rwanda

Watch English Patient Martin. One of those movies which is mostly dependant on its superb acting IMO.
I'll report back to you.

In the end it's all a matter of taste. I don't see anyone arguing they have a handle on taste in music - I think people acknowledge there's myriad styles that appeal to various people and it's hard to account for what may appeal to a particular person.

But in this field there is a self professed elite that reviews and rates all movies. If you don't fit in with their general conclusions then you have no idea what you're talking about. What it really means though is that their conclusions don't apply as widely as they think they do and it's a matter of disbelief (witness Osman's reaction) that someone doesn't follow the pattern.

I watched The International last night. Very interesting film filled with tons of action.

The film breaches into the realm of the banking system and exposes how we are slaves for debt, allowing certain groups to control matters around the globe.

Bring down the terrorist central and investment bankers!

I watched it too last night, awesome movie. Some quotes from the film:

Jonas Skarssen: What do you want?
Louis Salinger: I want some fucking justice.

Louis Salinger: Sometimes a man can meet his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.

Louis Salinger: Sometimes the hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn... I'm the one you burn.

Umberto Calvini: [In explaining the "true" nature of banking in the world] The IBBC is a bank. Their objective isn't to control the conflict, it's to control the debt that the conflict produces. You see, the real value of a conflict, the true value, is in the debt that it creates. You control the debt, you control everything. You find this upsetting, yes? But this is the very essence of the banking industry, to make us all, whether we be nations or individuals, slaves to debt.

I saw the most bizarre double-feature on Friday. They took me to GI Joe for work. It blew, but you know that going in. The funny thing was what I had a suspension-of-disbelief problem with: it wasn't all the CGI, it wasn't indestructable actors, and it wasn't even bad plotlines. It was economics. (The economic feasibility of an independent corporation building an entire high-tech city underwater beneath the North Pole would require all the GNP of the G20 nations and then some.)

Then with my wife, a chick flick of sorts: Julie & Julia. No explosions, but Meryl Streep is awesome. And Julia Child was a revolutionary who needs her due. But the other whiny character should have been shot in the head. Well, what do you expect when it's directed by someone whose name sounds like a nasal spray (Nora Ephron).

One of the most truthful quotes ever said in a film. Add in the Federal Reserve and you have the whole kit and caboodle.

Watching 13 days, love that film.

Andy, have you watched it ?
Yes I have, actually. I forget a lot of it though.
