I Wikipediated (is that a verb?) the thing, and discovered that Mayol and Maiorca actually totally disliked the film that made a whole generation.
Maiorca was never contacted, and Mayol renegociated his contract to win more money, as he was surprised with the huge success of it.

I learned that Jacques Mayol hung himself in 2001. Wasn't aware off that.:depressed
