Dreyer's silent movie
La passion de Jeanne d'Arc from 1928 about Joan of Arc is a masterpiece. Its way ahead of its time and features one of the best acting performances of all time.
Bresson's
Journal d'un curé de campagne from 1951 is another option. The movie follows a country priest with stomachache during a period of doubt about God.
Maybe
Drifters from 1929 is more you. It's about the story of Britain's herring fishing industry.

I think
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has aged a lot better. Both are filmed by some of the best cinematographers of all time, but in some ways
The Sting just looks terribly dated (I think it's because of the use of transitions), while - as you say -
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid looks great.
The Sting is clever with all its twists, but
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is more my kind of movie. Both are good though.
