Yeah, the fight scenes were too much and I also think the dragon scene was too long. I really love Benedict's voice as the dragon, though.

It's not like I disliked the new character, but, to me, it didn't make sense. I think the story is fine without all the love crap, and there's no chance in hell an elf falls in love with a dwarf.
Yeah, that part is a bit of a joke, but then if a man why not a dwarf? I think the idea is that it sits well with her character's youthful impetuousness (she's 'only' 600 years old), and the general more 'pure' philosophy of the elves. In my opinion, at least, the fragile relationship between dwarves and elves in the movie releases is not what it seems in the overall Tolkien universe.

In short the love rival aspect should have been left out, but it is still a staple part of a Hollywood movie.

not to sound redundant, but when all said and done bale will go down as one of the best actors ever
No. The thing is, it's not enough to be one of the best actors, you also have to star in films that will be remembered as masterpieces. Pacino, De Niro and Brando are remembered because of the amazing films they were in as much as because of their amazing performances.

I can't think of one film considered a masterpiece where Bale gave a fantastic performance. Some will say the Batman films are masterpieces (I don't agree), but he sure as hell didn't give an Oscar worthy performance there. He probably gave his best performances in The Fighter, The Machinist and American Psycho, and those films are sure as hell not masterpieces. He's still young though.

It's been too long since I saw Empire of the Sun (if that's what you are referring to), but how often do you see anyone highlight that movie? Sure, Spielberg have made quite a few good movies, but Empire of the Sun isn't considered as a masterpiece.

I was expecting that answer. :p Your initial point was that "bale will go down as one of the best actors ever". When you say "go down as", I assume you mean that he will go down in history. But what history? It seems like you were looking for some kind of consensus. You may be right that it doesn't matter what the so-called experts can agree on, but if that's the case, then why be bothered if he goes down in history or not? :)

And yes, I'm pedantic... :p
