By the way, I can recommend Searching for Sugar Man to everybody in here. It's a great, great documentary about the musician Rodriguez who was totally unknown in USA, but popular in South Africa. Everybody thought he died a long time ago. The documentary is about what happened to him, but more importantly it tells an important life lesson (I obviously won't spoil what...). He's actually a great musician as well.

A Swede made the movie, I heard a lot about it. Rodriguez became a hit on Spotify after the documentary.

Yeah, I know. It's pretty cool too, and now he's up for the Oscar as well. Wouldn't surprise me if he wins it.
I'm listening to Rodriguez on Spotify right now. It's impossible not to be intrigued by his music when you see the documentary.

Yessir. Just finished watching it. Very good movie. I can see why Jennifer Lawrence is a frontrunner for an Oscar for this film. And no, this opinion is not based upon my infatuation with her.

Anyway, Kate had some good recommendations. Also, you should try watching some Haneke movies (Kate mentioned Caché), so Amour seems obvious right now. Intouchables is another pretty new movie that everyone loves. Le scaphandre et le papillon and Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain are also must sees.

If you want to dig into intellectual stuff, then Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Robert Bresson and Jean Renoir are the way to go, but most people usually find those directors boring.
